Is my new car remapped?

Featured Replies

Morning all,

I picked up a 2007 1.9TDi Elegance estate with 67k miles on friday as a new car for my dad.  It's been a fleet car for the military but has been looked after and feels tighter than my 50k Scout!

I've had 2 diesel Scouts over the last 6 years so have got a fair bit of Octavia driving under my belt.  The Scout goes well with the 2.0PD engine but I've been amazed by the performance of the 1.9TDi.

It accellerates up the local hills better than my scout and has a really 'nippy' feeling about it - I an't beleive that the engine hasn't been tweaked.

One thought is that it's just different power delivery and the 4wd of the Scout making the difference but my wife's got a 2.0 140bhp PD Leon and this new Octavia even feels quicker than this!

Is ther any way to find out if it's been chipped (the previous knowledge claims that he doesn't know either way) - i've got VCDS to paly with if this can help.

thanks

measure the boost logs.

I don't really know the answer but I'm experiencing the same sort of thing. Is it possible mileage actually is better for these diesels as they loosen up. I've just bought a pd vrs with 117k and having owned another one last year with 67k this one with more mileage on feels a lot stronger. Although the dpf isn't present on this one i believe that makes a big difference. Doesn't help you much though sorry!!

Thanks, but how would I do this with VCDS?  What pressures should I expect?

Just drive and enjoy.

If you have no knowledge of the car being anything other than standard then you do not need to declare and modification from standard really.

If you do know then dont tell everyone on a open / public forum.

Even though a loss adjuster and underwriter might claim that ignorance is no defence, it actually is.

There's no way a military fleet car has been remapped.

The 1.9 delivers it's power in a different way to the 2.0

There's a definate shove when the power comes in around 1800rpm, those PD engines were great. The 2.0 CR although more powerful ha's a more linear power delivery.

AWD will sap 10% of power.

What bhp is the 1.9tdi, they can come out standard upto 150bhp.

I work for the military & as Sheldon.Cooper said if it has been remapped it wont have been done by the military as our vehicles are all on lease & are usually replaced every 4 to 5 years if not earlier,im suprised a 2007 car was still in service or did the person you bought it off buy the car when it was 4-5 years old?

Never say never.

There are people all over with a Laptop and the knowledge.

People all the time borrow cars, hire cars, drive fleet cars including the military vehicles and just remap them because they can.

The people that seldom check or put vehicles back to factory setting before disposal or on receiving to send to auction will be Military and others.

Reason being some believe that the military would not remap.

Military vehicles dont get remapped or messed with whilst they are on lease...trust me....we can view every vehicle from a mobile phone or pc & they are fitted with devices that monitor their every move & record everything they do & have done to them whilst in for maintenance or repair. People dont borrow a military vehicle...their every journey & driver are tracked.

I believe you.

Only issue is i have bought Ex Military disposal vehicles, so it does not matter if what you say is true since it can be wrong.

(PS. they do not come straight from the military to a private buyer, as you know.)

I give up.....you clearly know best....yet again....i only work on them & have done for the last 18 years....what happens to them once their i.d is removed & they go onto the transporter to auction & leave the military is of no concern to me....my point is when they are used by & maintained by the military they do not get remapped etc....once they are sent to a auction house many miles away & sold as ex military with no i.d or reg plates then if somebody buys it & gets it remapped then thats fine.......

Trimble is not my friend.

The 1.9 PD105 is actually quite a surprising engine performance wise.

The headline figure of a dizzy 105bhp sounds pretty pitiful really but on the road the real world performance is very surprising. Probably due to the big lump of torque the PD engines deliver (250nm @ 1900rpm).

I found it a perfect pairing to the DSG box.

A while back I picked up a relative from Germany from the airport (a total of 4 adults in the car and luggage). And he asked "How much power? 170bhp?" He was very surprised when I said 105!

Not in the Octavia they don't. They are all standard 105hp

Ah right ok. Thought the octavia used a variety of power in the Pd's.

My old 2001 Passat Estate PD was rated at 100hp and it flew up hills. As far as I know the power was indeed slightly upped to 105hp for the next generation. Just got rid of a 2009 Octavia PDI 140 and that had much more bottom end grunt and flew also.

They both got through tyres in around 14000 miles on the same regular commute.

Yes they did a PD100 version which was also used in the Fabia and I think certain MK1 Octavias towards the end of production.

Due to how the PD engines work they do give a nice kick of torque which really helps with hills I found.
