Electrical issue

Featured Replies

Finally got my Felicia 1.8t on the road, however, after my MOT on Saturday i had no wipers/wash, heater blower, rear heated screen, lights and car wouldn't even attempt to start!

Turn the key and all the lights come up as they should but try and start it(push button) it does nothing. But it will bump start fine.

I haven't had chance to look into it yet but my guess would be relay with number 18 on it or starter solenoid?

Car was originally 1.6 aee and all electrics besides the engine loom are standard.

Any help much appreciated in advance!

In order to be thorough, start with checking all fuses.

Then have a very close look at yellow wire plug connected to the solenoid of the starter. Any corrosion there and the relay marked 18 (R7 - Relief relay for X contact) will not work resulting in symptoms described by you. If cleaning thoroughly that connector will solve the electrical issue, fill with grease that area to avoid water sipping in there again. If not, replace relay marked 18.

Thanks Ricardo,

I shall check when i get home this evening.

Though as i'm using a 02j gearbox and starer it has a plug that clips on so should be safe from water but i shall check to be certain!

Think i have a spare relay somewhere aswell.

Just as a reassuring test,,before replacing the relay, take it out, tap on it with something then reseat it to see if things go back to normal.

It sounds like the yellow starter lead has a bad contact. Try earthing the yellow lead and see if the wipers work then. Obviously don't try the starter with that lead earthed lol..

I have fixed the problem now, turned out to be a dodgy solder join where i joined the yellow starter wire to the 02j starter plug!

Cheers guys
