Someone may have fitted overrated bulbs at some point and cooked the reflective coating off at the back?

I like your thinking.

Would HIDs do this you reckon?

Dunno TBH.

I don't positively know, but  HIDs shouldn't cook the reflectors, because they're only half the power (or thereabouts) of halogens, and much more of their power is output in the visible spectrum, so there's just plain less heat in the backs of the units.

What would cook the reflectors (in a couple of extreme cases on Vauxhalls I've seen the bulb holders be melted out of the light shells) is using 100W or 130W halogen bulbs.

55w HID could more than damage the reflector, some kits even melt the headlight.

I see it daily on xenon projector headlights, the top half of the reflector is black and burned so doesn't give off very good light.

Topfuel - are they standard halogen headlights or xenon?

Apparently I stand corrected. Are these 55w units outputting a lot of near UV?

Yep ! zenon HID's as standard on my VRS !

Then I would assume them to be burned out.

PM me if you want me to inspect/repair/replace them.

Bringing this back, anyone know if the lights can be fixed?

Or best place to get new lenses from for xenons?

Bad idea reviving new thread as you can make a new one but anyway:

You can always replace lenses individually but thats not the issue. Its the bowl itself that fails and gets faded. Go on a site like https://www.theretrofitsource.com/ OR any Uk supplier really. You can replace the projector itself for another one that is better quality, or even an LED projector. Morimoto on TheRetrofitSource are excellent quality products
