Is the mk11 ' better ' than the mk111

Featured Replies

Hi, first and foremost, please no offence intended to mk111 owners

I currently drive a 2009 fl 1.9 tdi elegance estate and it does everything I want, however I have the option to buy newer but have reservation as many times I've read that owners have build quality, seat / pedal position, lower height access into drivers seat and general quality of finish, issues

My next car will, unless it has no dpf, most likely be a petrol I do require an estate

so do I

run existing car into the ground

upgrade to octavia mk111

or

consider a superb, once again almost certainly petrol

Look forward to views and opinions thanks in advance

Id keep your mk2 rather than replace it with a mk3,ive had a mk1 & a mk2 octavia vrs & i was impressed with my mk2 & kept it for 6 years then traded it on its 8th birthday,i tried a mk3 & was not impressed with the quality & thought it was a bit of a boring plain car & after reading about some of the issues in the mk3 forum im glad i didnt bother now, they seem to be expensive to buy yet dont keep their value that well after a few years, ive had skoda's for the last 8 years but now drive a volvo.

In all honesty if your current car is still working fine and fits your needs then stick with it.

The 1.9 TDI is probably the most reliable engine choice.

The MK3 isn't a big enough upgrade from a MK2 in my opinion.

They had some backwards steps with regards to the chassis set-up on all but the vRS (MK2 are all independent rear but only the vRS gets it on the MK3 I think).

Have you been in a mk3 ? i have and the roof pitch over the front seats is to low for me as i have a long back and had to keep bending my neck when getting in and out if you are over 6ft i would say its a problem .

The prices of the mk3s seems to be droping all the time ive seen vrs,s for 12k i would keep your mk2 ,

There is a facelift octavia due out in February, so that will affect the prices of the current Mk3 even more!

Yes.

As owner of both cars, let me say, keep your MkII if you're happy with it. If you want more toys and a shinier car then get the MkIII. My TSI is comfier, more toys, faster, better economy plus bigger, than my old petrol VRS MKII. It doesn't use oil or produce creamy gunk in the oil filler cap in cold weather. It does feel like a lighter built car, you can hear grit against the sills more than the MkII which is more solid and there are occasional minor rattles which are more apparent on rougher surfaces and when the ambient temperature is below 4-5 C. For all the great stuff about the MkII, namely great performance combined with value for money, mine still had the usual ABS sensir/ Air-Con and G60 sensor problems. The dash made a few noises around the air vents in cold weather but I forgave it all of its faults as it was a brilliant car for 7 years.

Thanks for the replies above, I know this is a conclusive poll but it's not looking good for the MK111, but to be fair I spent ages trolling through this site reading countless threads before I plumped for my present car.....

As I am a tad over 6ft and marvel at what my current car offers over the previous MK11 Fabia 1.9 level 3 ( which wasn't a patch on our MK1 Fabia, but that's a different thread although the MK111 seems to get decent reviews ) I don't think the octy 111 is going to cut it for me

Looks like I'm reading up on the 1.4 tsi superb estate IF I choose to buy newer

I've seen preview pics of the facelift and... it's ugly!

To be fair, the mk3 pre facelift isn't exactly a looker!!

Thanks Mike ( and others ) got to be honest I've followed many of your threads on here, since the demise of my local Skoda dealer in Pickering, where I got good advice warts and all the octavia 1.9 tdi estate was the way to go mine now has 74 k on her so just about run in ! I think because I've never kept a car above 85 k I'm worrying unnecessarily, I do expect some wear and tear items to be required but I can get an awful lot of replacement parts for the equivalent cost to change to from what I read is a lesser thought of vehicle

Maybe it's time to read up on the mk 11 superb,

I'd hate to take a backward step again as I feel I did going into the mk11 Fabia that definitely didn't feel as well built as our mk1
