A sure sign that the gearbox oil needs changing.

Agreed. And ensure 10000% that you use the right oil, and not a generic spec. The boxes are very picky.

What car/engine do you have?

Yup, first thing I thought of before even opening the thread!

Skoda will tell you it's for a lifetime, which is cobblers, but a lot of people on here seem to change theirs about 80/100k from what I've read.

It is maintenance free for the cars lifetime. Modern cars are built to a life expectancy of 5 years or 100k miles, therefore this is when it should be changed if you want to run it for 2 lifetimes.

Nah, that can't be right, not with car companies offering 7+ years warranty.

True some offer 7 years warranty but this is generally the importer using aftermarket warranty insurance. The Vauxhall lifetime warranty specifies in the small print that it's up to 5 years and 100k miles, hence they consider this the lifespan of the vehicles.

I had mine changed at ~70k.

Changed mine at approx 50,000 miles. Very smooth gear changes.

Should be the synthetic oil for the 6 speed manual I think.
