Do dealers know what they are doing?

Featured Replies

Spoke to the dealer again today as I hadn't heard back from them. They said that they had submitted a technical request to Skoda Parts (or something to that effect), who had come back to them confirming that the part they fitted was the correct one for my car, despite having an extra switch. I asked if they knew (or had asked Skoda Parts) what the difference was between the two cruise control part numbers (apart from the trip computer buttons), and they said they didn't know, so would try to find out.

That would be true for the spec of your car AS BUILT, but now you've had the cruise retrofitted it's NOT TRUE.

Suggest to the dealer that they go out into their parking lot and look at the wiper stalk on an Octavia III with an MFSW & factory fitted cruise (CC or ACC it doesn't matter) - it WON'T have trip computer buttons fitted (mine doesn't!).

They do know that the buttons shouldn't be there, it's just that they are not confident that the other part is actually the correct one as it states on their Accessories intranet that the other part is "only for vehicles without on board computer or multi-function steering wheel". It seems they've been misled by the Skoda information, but obviously it will cost them to put it right once they've been convinced the other part will work. I'm waiting for the after-sales manager to return to work.

The other part (without the buttons) will work. It has absolutely no impact on the operation of the MFSW at all.

Still haven't heard from the installing dealer, so phoned Skoda Customer Service to get a second opinion. They said that the part installed (with the trip computer switches) was the correct one for my car, and that the other CC part would be only for cars without an onboard computer, and would have different circuitry to enable the cruise control to work. They said they didn't have a part suitable for my car that matched the factory version. Since Skoda UK and the dealer are clearly working off just what their computer tells them and no actual practical experience, I don't think I'm going to get anywhere with this. Anyone have any suggestions?!

Get the dealer to order and fit the stalks without the switches for trip computer.

Take it white Dove Cardiff ? Took them six weeks to code a brand new key to my old fabia VRS. And could never find my PAS light fault on start up. Once VCDS arrived i sorted the PAS light myself. And had already told them in was the battery just from reading up. Bunch of idiots down there. Get down to Capitol skoda in Newport and see Haley.

There's no way they will do this when Skoda UK are telling them that version with the stalks without the trip computer switches won't work in my car, and the one they've already fitted is the correct one for my chassis number. It will obviously cost them to do the swap, and they can't return the one they've already fitted as it's an accessory. I need evidence to take to them so show that Skoda are wrong and that the other one will in fact work and should be fitted instead. They're not going to take my word for it.

If you're not going to push them then you'll have to live with the issue and keep asking the same question and getting the same answer.

I've fitted loads of these kits with and without trip computers and with or without MFSW, customer services are just puppets, parts men just do what ETKA tells them.
