Road bike

Featured Replies

Well having got back into mountain biking I'm now looking for a roadbike. If anyone comes across anything decent second hand please let me know. I'm 6'0 so guessing 57 or 58cm frame size.

My mate is training for an ironman so I'd like to try and help him train

Cheers

Mike

Swap bikes then! Let the fit bloke ride the MTB and you ride the roadie; that will give him a decent workout!

How much? I'd imagine out of my price range!

We MTB together already, even though he's fitter than me I think I'd still leave him for dust lol

I've done the Barcelona IM race twice; really good event. I even managed to get my 15 seconds of fame on TV during the bike leg in amongst the pros - long story best saved for sharing over a beer!

That's plausible.

You know that "throom throom throom..." sound that MTBs make ridden fast on seal. That's the cyclist's work being converted directly into sound.

Ah cool, I'm really tempted to do an IM, and if my plans for next year go well I might even have the time to dedicate to training!

Yeah for sure, I've never ridden a full blown road bike, but from what I'm told they are pretty much effortless compared to the MTB

VRS Mike. I think SUBLIME have their own website,as with most bikes built for customers spec ,it depends on components used.

This is me in full on Ironman bike leg mode; it's a few years ago now and I'm not even sure I could do a couple of miles in that position, let alone 112! My PB is 5 hours 14 minutes and it is likely to stay that for the rest of my life!

Very cool, was speaking to a neighbour who once completed a double ironman, insane!!!

On a good flat, smooth surface yes, they are a revelation compared to an MTB - it's the hills and inclines where you notice the difference due to the gearing. When I got back into cycling last year, I started with an MTB with road biased tyres on it - took me nearly 40 mins to ride the 8.5 miles to work (mixed flats and hills) - upgraded to a dedicated road bike on 23mm tyres, running 80+ psi, and can do it in under 30 mins now (PB I think was 28:35 or close) - so they do make a difference, just need to get the stamina up for the hills

TBF I've seen custom-geared "road touring bikes" with a 36 tooth low chainring and a 28 tooth low ratio in the cassette. With triple chainrings and a 6 sprocket cassette the same bike was still running a 52-16 top.

Another RAF rider this time on a SUBLIME

I was running a 53-11 on my bad boy!

With front and rear panniers and a touring saddle bag?
