Felicia clunking

Featured Replies

Hi there.

About a month ago i started notcing a strange sound coming from my 98 1.3 lxi felicia. For about the first 10 minutes of a drive, whenever i use the clutch i can hear a kluncking coming from down below somewhere. It seems to disappear after a while, which makes it even more odd.

When the car was in the garage today i asked to mechanic to give the car a drive to see what he thought. After looking at it properly he said it wasnt the clutch release bearings as he suspected, nor was it engine mountings or what not and he said he couldnt find the origin of the noise, he even owns a felicia himself!

Has anyone had a similar pronlem? I would be grateful if someone could shed some light on this.

Thanks!

I get a light clunk somewhere under the rear floor (as far as I can tell). I think it's the exhaust but can't find where. It comes when you dip or let up the clutch and when accelerating or throttling back in a low gear - it seems to be when the engine rocks rather than any clutch or gear change thing. It has to be the exhaust doesn't it? If you track it down let me know. (My 1.3 doesn't do it, only the diesel)

Hi. Thanks for the info. Ill check out my exhaust tomorrow and see if i can find anything.

the deisel exhaust (originals even WORSE) but famed for very limited support brackets

it's possible yes a connecting joint has come loose and the exhaust is flexing

look it over b4 you worry too much. admit not quite the weather to lay under a car, thick snow here.... he ho

My 98 Felicia 1.6 has a clunk due to gear linkage problem that I still haven't sorted out.

Any sudden torque on the engine, when pulling away, etc, causes the loose linkage lever to clunk.

Although more than likely the exhaust may be worth checking out.

My GFs Felicia (P - 97?) 1.9D estate does this - particularly when changing between 1st and 2nd. I also think the clutch is pretty worn on this - how difficult to change? 90k-ish miles, iirc.

The exhaust on my 1.6 clunks sometimes when changing gear. I think the problem is down to excessive fore and aft movement of the engine. If you have a look to the RHS of the engine (viewed from the front) you will see that the gearbox cover projects up through a bonded rubber mounting. This has rubber pads front and rear and restricts how much the engine can rock forwards and backwards under throttle. If the pads are worn, the engine is free to move more - hence the exhaust is more likely to make a noise. Replacing the mounting is a simple DIY job (2 bolts and washers hold it in place). The part is under

Where is the best place to source these mounts from? No Skoda deal for me to just pop to (other than driving to Poole / Yeovil). I guess I could order from europarts or similar if I knew the item code?

It looks well hammered in my diesel. Not bad in the 1.3. If I can find one I'm going to give it a go too. Motor factors part perhaps?

Shame, I liked the idea of stuffing rubber down it too:(

Cheers
