Redex oil system treatment

Featured Replies

Just wondering if anyone ( particularly fabia vrs drivers ) has used the Redex oil treatment.

It says on the bottle helps reduce oil consumption. I know this won't resolve the issues the vrs has

With oil consumption however I was wondering if anyone had used it and maybe noticed it wasn't using as much.

Also does anyone know how the stuff works ? As I've heard some people say it just thickens your oil.

I've heard mixed reviews on the product, I just want to know whether it's worth sticking in my vrs or whether I should just put the bottle back in the cupboard.

Driving a 2011 fabia vrs CAVE. Changed oil, filter and plugs yesterday got denso iridiums and put shell ultra helix 0w30 in it.

Cheers,

Big Dan.

It's basically golden syrup.

Mixes with the oil so it goes nice and thick so can't leak last seals etc and burn off.

Also means it can't get through the oil galories or turbo feed pipe as well either but every cloud...

Put back in the cupboard. IMO & IME..

See how your oil use goes with your 0w 30 oil in.

If consumption is high still maybe use that oil as your flush and drop when warm and get 3.6 litres of 5w 40 in. (VW 502 00)

Cheers guys, glad I didn't put it in now.

I used to have a Toyota iQ 1.0.  The recommended oil was 5w 30, but Euro 4 engines had EGR valve issue,

and Euro 5 models did not come near the official EU test figures in MPG or emissions, so the Recommended oil was changed to 0W 30.

Made not much difference to the MPG for many, plus they ended up needing to top up the oil more often.

No idea what Vorsprung Durch Technik is in Japanese, or even CZ.

Dont ever even contemplate using any oil additive! I once used Slick50 in my passat 1.6 many years ago. It didnt do what it promised (economy/power) but the engine rapidly went from no oil useage to chronic drinker/blue smoker.

Use a 5w/40 full synthetic oil such as Quantum Platinum.

Not Redex, but I was wondering about Forte engine flush (URL). My local independent garage recommends it but I am not sure whether it would be a good idea with a Twincharger?

I would not mess with a good running engine.

Before the service give the car a good run and get the oil up to temp and then let it cool to a safe heat to change the Oil & Filter.

Run your Super Unleaded and the correct oil and you really should not need a Flush like that.

I once used Slick or something similar in a Ford 1300 OHV crossflow engine, initial feeling was, "that is some strange stuff" when I dropped some on the garage floor and could not wipe it up. During the first winter trouble came, temperatures dropped to maybe - 10C (and more) - would not get the engine to start due to lazy battery, bought a Zephyr 6 brute of a battery, still no good but the roads were too slippery to tow it to start. Ended up heating up the sump with a blowlamp once temperatures lifted a bit - that worked, asap in milder weather I replaced the oil!

Lesson learned!
