Lowering VRS

Featured Replies

Hi. Don't pick my VRS up till next Saturday but I plan on taking it straight away to a garage to get it lowered by 25-30mm. I've done a lot of reading into it, but I'm still none the wiser on what's the best set up.

I've read about Skoda themselves doing updated springs but I've not read from anyone that's had them done, and also at £550 that's a lot. I had my type r fitted with Eibach pro springs and a complete fast road set up with slight camber and longer tca all done at TDI south for £500.

All help and thoughts taken.

Also when I test drove it, I was in D, and from a standing start I floored it. And the EML came on for about 20 seconds. Then went off. I done the same in S Mode and it seemed fine. It's only done 20k miles.

Anything to worry about??

Eibach springs are 30mm and around £180. They are the skoda approved kit I'm sure.

H&R seem to be the next best choice at 40mm and around £140.

Yes something to be concerned about, or to check out.

Only 21,000 miles but what servicing has been done.

WHAT IS THE FULL SKODA SERVICE HISTORY?

Minor service 2012 Oil / Filter   (A Software Update should have been done.)

Major service 2013 Oil / Filter  Pollen Filter.   (Software Update done if not the year before.)

Minor service 2014 & MOT.  (brake fluid changed)

Major Service 2015.  WERE THE SPARK PLUGS CHANGED?  Is the Air Filter changed or checked?

So are the Spark Plugs replaced, they should have been, or need doing now.

Is it running on Super Unleaded, it might never have, or might have Super Unleaded in now.

Has it had a Software Update done in the past 5 years?

Check that the Service Campaign work is done.

DSG Service Campaign if needed, Heated Seat Element, and anything else.

The full service history was all main Skoda dealer.

How can I actually find out what each service was? Would it be in a database anywhere?

From what I can read in your reply, is it more a software thing as opposed to mechanical or oil related??

A Skoda Dealership can and should print out it for you.

Skoda UK Customer Services used to Email it to you if asked, but became difficult recently, saying Data Protection which is a lie.

Please read it as possibly fouled spark plugs or 1 failing spark plug.

Or a Used car at a Dealers getting 95 ron fuel and started every day and not run long enough, sitting ticking over.

Sometimes the car just needs a run.

With 99 Octane Petrol.

10 miles to warm up the Oil, then another to get it running nice, then a wee blast to clean the Plugs.

ONLY IF THERE ARE 4 GOOD SPARK PLUGS IN THOUGH.

I read your first post so know you have the experience.

Dont worry about this REVO link, but be aware of the issues.

& aware that not all early Twinchargers have issues, but you need to be aware that all owners especially ones doing an average 5,000 miles a year maybe just knew what a Skoda Service Desk person told them.

Spark Plugs where being left untouched for 40,000 miles, but were sometimes having 1 fail at 20,000 miles or less.

Some Reading.

You are an encyclopedia of knowledge. People like you are what makes forums great. Thankyou.

The dealer said he/ll give it a full service before I collect it. I'll ring them up today and request new plugs to be added.

Piece of mind. It's got 6 months warranty, so if there's still a problem it should flag up during that period.

Also should it always be run on high octane? The type r is advised as every third tank full to use 99

No all the time Tesco Momentum 99,  or if you must Shell V-Power Nitro+

Then there are 97 Ron Sainsbury, Esso, Gulf, BP Super Unleaded.

The recommended fuel is 98 Super, but there is no 98 Ron sold in the UK,  but 97 ron is 97 Minimum.

(Winter Formulation now in the UK and a twincharger likes cool air intake and high Octane and some Super Unleaded can exceed the 99 Octane.

Lovely Stuff, just like 100-102 as in Europe....)

95 octane is something all EU Type Approved engines must be able to run on,

a Twincharger does not run well on it.

This applies very much to the 1.4 TSI / TFSI 132-135kw Twinchargers, just a pity that Skoda do not make this clear, or Dealership employees

understand the importance, not just for power, but efficient running.

You will find that many here recommend a Rear ARB as a great upgrade, and lowering.

(I like high (standard) and movement myself. Horses for courses and crap roads. Good traction 215/40 R tyres make lots of a difference.)

Good Brake Pads / Brake Fluid upgrade is most important IMO.
