Rally Of Great Britain

Featured Replies

Ive never been to a rally before and really want to go to this year's rally GB. Can someone please let me know how tickets for this event is ordered, and how I can find out the stages?

The website is http://www.walesrallygb.com/ (I think...)

Has info for spectators - not sure you need to buy a ticket as such though...

Day tripper

Be extremely wary and careful with your own speed. It's tempting to get carried away with the excitement of following the rally, even if its relatively confined like the Rally GB is nowadays. I was working in Wales for all of last year and the Police / Safety camera vans were ruthless - BLITZ is an appropriate word...

Watch out for the white camera vans which you will see if you're careful, but the dark blue unmarked vans are very difficult to spot between stages or on the approach routes.

i was considering going to 1 or 2 stages however following all of them would be great fun? is there anyone on here planning to follow it stage for stage?

i be instrested in going depends where it is abouts and if iam free

I would love to go along and had origionally planned to go, but with the Jabba trip looming, I think I may have to give this a miss this year! Maybe we should sort a group meet at the Rally Wales, sorry, GB next year! :D

Right then; a number of easy places to find info for the Rally GB.

websites of interest are;

http://www.msaevents.co.uk/

http://www.wrc.com

http://www.fia.com

and Motoring News for the next two weeks.

You'll need to purchase tickets for the various areas you would like to visit, I've managed to get free tickets to Walters Arena and Service on Friday and a Residents Pass for Saturday, if I can get a press pass for Sunday then all well and good, but....

Fabpeiza is right though, the Police are very hard during the Rally, a mate of mine got done twice while chasing the rally two years ago.

Get in early, take hot tea/coffee and food and join in the fun and stand next to the Welsh, they know their stuff about rallying.

Lloydee

I agree with lloydee, def take everything you need to the stage/stages you want, chaing the rally is great fun, but can be dificult (esp now the cops are clamping down). Best to find somewhere where there are a few stages close together, or a re-use stage and get a nice spot. Take warm drink, waterproofs, chow, a good book / gameboy game / telly (nothing worse than waiting for a stage start/restart). http://www.walesrallygb.com is the official website (allthough not seeming to work at moment? try the google backup http://www.google.co.uk/search?q=cache:d74iVHddh58J:www.walesrallygb.com/default.asp%3FPage%3DSpectators+plan+the+rally+of+gb&hl=en&ie=UTF-8)

Like I mentioned in the vote the rally car thread is there's gonna be a few of us going it may be worth sorting a meet of some kind?

cheers

Well, in any case it should be a thriller, with four title contenders covered by four points!

I've got my event pass :D

First time I've been since it stopped being the RAC

There was a lot of the top drivers done for speeding on the road sections last year.

If anyone is planning on going to see the rally keep your eyes out for me, I've got a day pass for the Saturday... will be seeing SS8/10 (Crychan) and SS14 (Resolfen 2). I'm using carparks M and J2 so if you see me give us a wave

To which I'll add this from today's Scoobynet:-

Rally 'Safety' Cameras Condemned

The ABD has condemned an announcement by the Mid & South Wales Safety Camera Partnership that they intend to target drivers attending the Wales Rally GB over the weekend of 6th-9th November.

Last year over 2300 drivers were caught by cameras deliberately set up between rally stages, and on bridges over the M4 motorway. Those caught included rally drivers Colin McRae, Richard Burns, Tommi Makinen, Carlos Sainz and Markko Martin.

Spokesman Mark McArthur-Christie said: "Speed Cameras are supposed to be deployed at accident blackspots, yet during last year's rally there were no serious accidents. There is absolutely no justification for targeting people attending a sporting event. The only possible motive behind this victimisation is financial."

Ive never been to a rally before

Gaff, you should really go and see an Irish rally. The majority of them are held on closed public roads. I don't think that they can do this in the UK. David

Dave,

I thinkyour getting me mixed up with day tripper,

I've been to a few National rounds, I know the fella who produces the programme On the Limit Sports so I went along with him. I've never been to a Tarmac round, I've always wanted to go to Donegal but the BTCC was in Mondello that date in 2001, was involved in Punchestown Rallymasters in 2002 (fingers crossed it will be back in 2004), was involved with Fiat Punto Abarth Cup for a visit to Pembrey in 2003. The problem with the rallying is the travelling, mondello is handy as its only 20 minutes away. Have you ever gone to see the Rallycross, there awesome.

I did go to the WRC in San Remo with some friend a couple of years ago, it was very hard to get around, the Italians are crazy. I went to Cyprus the following year for a 2 week holiday with the rally falling in the middle (I don't think the girlfriend realised at the time why I wanted to go on the dates we did). I found Cyprus very easy to get around, I got a lot of stages in on the Saturday (watch the top ten or so and go to next stage).

My friend is big into motorsport and does PR for a few Irish drivers so I've been luck enough to go and see them racing, Michael Keohane in F3 (Silverstone, Snetterton and Brands Hatch also there was BTCC), Michael Devaney in Formula BMW (Zanvoort in Holland also there was DTM). He managed a couple of Alfa 147's in this year Alfa 147 GTA Cup and next year will continue to do so which will act as a support race to the ETCC so I hope to go over and get involved in that.

Sorry Mr.Gaff, got confused with Avatars. David

So far, with SS4 completed and SS5 underway, Didier is only 14th and Toni 16th.

As far as the title fight is concerned, it

If that's true, Petter only needs to keep out of the ditches...

When you follow these guys through a stage they're in ditches more than on the track, the cuts they take are amazing :D

Go Petter!

I wont be driving anywhere this weekend as ive got really bad tonsulitis. So im stuff at home watching daytime which is really ****. Was watching this car programme on german channel dsf, and had an mtm audi s1 on it, stupidly fast!

Which is the better car the s1 or the rs200?

I take it the rally is underway as im typing, i think its pretty crap c4 only show the highlights, isnt there a channel on digital which has FULL coverage?

ps I HATE CITROENS!!!

cannot understand anyone who would buy one!

Go Petter![/quote']

I'd keep your fingers crossed:

Solberg suffers major tyre drama

Loeb fails to capitalise after a puncture of his own

Petter Solberg continues to lead Wales Rally GB after SS6, although the Norwegian suffered a major drama in the stage when his tyre exploded, causing major damage to his Subaru Impreza.

The problem occurred near the end of the stage, ensuring that Solberg lost only 1.6s of his lead to Sebastien Loeb. However, the Impreza's bodywork is heavily damaged, and with a long road section between the end of the stage and the service park, it is questionable whether Solberg will make it back for repairs.

sat down to watch the rally on c4. Didnt realise it was only on for 30 bloody minutes. THAT IS RIDICULOUS!

Ummmm...

Tonights show was 50 minutes, and they even showed Auriol going off in the Furby.

Well done Petter!

Can't believe Citroen being so selfish and holding back Loeb... Bit like Ferrari telling Barrichello to let Michael pass... undermines the whole ethic of sports.

Farce.
