Wheel adaptors - Safe or not?

Featured Replies

Been thinking of fitting some rims not from the VAG stable, possibly Porsche but totally undecided at the moment. I realise the only real way of doing this is with wheel adaptors, but the idea does worry me some-what. What is the optimum offset to be using for the Fabia?

So could someone reassure me that they are safe and i should go ahead with said project?

Many thanks

Matt

If the adapters are hub-centric TuV approved and you use high quality bolts that are the length of the standard bolts PLUS the depth of the adapter, then you should be fine.

I did about 10k of serious driving with mine on.

Had adapters on my mk2 golf gti running porsche 928 rims.

Just make sure you go for alloy adapters not cheap steel ones.

Go for H&R adapters had them on mine. Quality is very good and had no problems.

What's a wheel adaptor for?

To convert one PCD to another

there is such a vast selection of wheels with a 5x100 pcd that i dont personally see the need.

Most Porsche rims are available in 5x100.as porsche style rims.

Don't kid yourelf that genuine wheels are any better quality than cheap copies.

Cheap copies are usually made in the same factory by the same company using a different brand name.

Most of the price difference is a premium for being a genuine part and the stealerships cut.

I recall hearing somewhere that having spacers on means there is extra wear on the wheel bearings? Might be something to consider if you do a lot of miles.

Ive never seen anything like the Design 90s or anything from that era in 5x100, maybe im just looking in the wrong places? As for being made in the same factory, how come there is a documented weight difference between the OEM ones and aftermarket ones.

I had to laugh at that post too Matt.

Please don't get D90's though mate!!! Don't want to look like twins!

Manhole covers or Forged Cup wheels would be ace ;)

Personally I prefer the manhole covers ;)

ah right i thought you meant newer ones like the cup wheels.

as for the same factory thing i read that on vortex years ago talking about RS4 reps.

Personally i dont think these will suit a fabia

or these

possibly these?

A lot of factory reps are made of poor quality metal and have poor finishes, knocked up quickly in far eastern countries and sold in bulk to wheel wholesalers over here; be careful.

Some of the big German manufacturers do copies but they aren't of the cheap ebay store price range, and aren't always easy to get hold of in this country. German ebay is often a good place to look.

I think these would look good on the fabia. Pic of mine on my golf. Should of kept them.

Nah i think they would look ****e :P what says you Josh?

I was considering anthracite D90s But think that would make them look a lot smaller' date=' and they aint the biggest rim in the world to start with! Also looking at some Merc rims aswell. Im getting all Dub on you! Lol.

Quite like the look of those Monkey Boy, what size were they?

Ive also found these other rims i like in PVW but don't know what car they are off, any ideas? Its defo an Audi.

Or....

Any ideas on the best way to get hold of some of these:

As they only seem to come up in 18s not the 17s, and any idea on what i should be paying for a set?

Cheers

Matt

Heheh, I agree, those wheels would look nasty on a Fabia:

LOL

IMHO those 18" Leon Cupra R wheels look a bit too big on the Fabia.

If you want brownie points at the shows this year, then pretty much anything exotic will get you noticed... Maybach or Lambo wheels would rock on a Fabia.

Are they 18s? I was under the impression that they did 17s in the same design for the Ibiza. Must have been mistaken. Nah don't want anything cheap and nasty like Lambo or Maybachs, was thinkin Veyron ones, they would set it off a treat.... Alternatively some pepperpots from an xr2i! When you said drain lid wheels, which ones were you refering to? Not quite up to speed on the terminoligy!

Matt

They are 928 wheels Matt.

16x7 front and 16x8 rear. You can also get them dished as well. Will try to find a pic.

These are the "Man Hole Covers" IIRC:
