Sold My Teg Type R.....tavia Next Friday :)

Featured Replies

Hi guys,as the title says sold my beloved integra type r and picking up new Octy vrs next friday.Hope i dont regret it but judging by all the positive responses on here i shouldnt be disappointed ;).Drove it today and feels very composed and civilsed compared to the teg,at least the headaches from yet another 8800 rpm change should disappear now ;).

Anywho 2 questions to start with really....

1)jabba chip upgrade(jabba again....)Does this really give a significant increase in performance?more specifically would it give superior stright line speed than the teg?

Having driven the VRS today i would say its marginally slower than the teg, although it feels like it has more usable power......no need to wring its little wee neck like the type R ;).Or is my sensation of the speed diferance based on the fact that the teg makes a noise like all hell is breaking loose and your closer to ground and there actually very similer performance wise?

2)alarm or tracker.......surprised me that there was no alarm fitted as standard. Can anyone recommend an alarm and fitting place in the ashton-under-lyne/manchester area?

Or would your recommend A tracker fitted or in fact both?

Prolly questions that have been asked before but please....Indulge me ;).Got loads more question i wanna ask but ill search around first and let you deal with these couple first.....nobody likes a newbie asking 20 questions that have been asked before,on his first post ;)

Dash, Welcome to Briskoda

As far as your questions go...

1) It totally tranforms the car. From a good car, to a great car is a fair description. I dunno what the performance figures are for the integra, but a Jabba'd Octy is a formidable beast ;)

2) Security.

I have a Clifford Concept 500, and you're looking at around

Integra performance is :-

0-60=6.2 to 6.7 depending where you read

0-100=16.8 to 17.9 again,depedning where you read

Quarter mile=14.9 to 15.1 (you guessed it)depending where you read.

Id have a fair bet though that the ingear times of the Tavia would compare very favourably with the Teg.Hence my comment of usable power,Although i wouldnt exactly discribe the Integra as GUTLESS below 5800 rpm,i would defo say the tavia doesnt need to be "Ragged" as much to produce good forward velocity ;).Then again that was the whole point of the integra......rag the A**e of it ;).Great in small to medium doses......But can and DOES get a wee bit tiring after a while. My main reason for the change after 2 and half years........Ive no doubt ill miss its seat of the pants ride and Outrageous noise(You really have to experiance near 9000 rpm shifts and a SCREAMING engine at least once in your life :) ) But i think ive made the correct choice in terms of cost, performance and alround usabillity that the tavia obviously delivers.

Welcome, Dash. With a Jabba remap you are looking at a 40-50bhp increase, depending in part on what your engine is producing as stock. (Eg my 150bhp 4X4 was actually producing 164.9bhp). Jabba quote typical increases to 218-232bhp - and members have been getting towards the higher figure or even higher in one or 2 cases. All I can say is that in my case the car has been totally transformed, but doubtless someone will point out shortly that it isn't a vRS and that I should leave your question to others to answer! I opted for mid-range torque to give a kick in the seat of the pants for easy overtaking without having to rev the engine and that is exactly what I got. See the figures below. :D

As I drive an Integra from time to time I would say there couldn't be two more different cars. In general driving round the town and on A roads and Motorways the Integra is awful as its so low geared, noisy and therefore thirsty. On the twisty bits and B roads the Integra comes into its own as it has superb handling and brakes. I never have felt it has any real grunt (only 33lbf.ft torque) just lots of revs so not much use in overtaking. It also has a bone shaker hard ride and the combination of the low gearing and the ride makes it very tiring to drive any distance.

If you have the vRS Jabba'd it is a very rapid piece of kit. I would have thought it would leave the Integra standing even in standard form at least until the twisty bits. There's always KWs and brake upgrades to make a complete package for the vRS.

Chris

I meant to say 133lbf.ft max torque of course.

HEHE...hmm..you can say that again.Kept leaving it in 3rd and leaving the revs high......note to self.....ive got more torque and less rev range now...no need to bounce off redline ;).

Changing from an Integra makes a change from people changing from Imprezas!

Welcome to the board.

On the subject of jabba,is the remap significantly better that just having it chipped?

The reason i ask is while speaking to the dealer today he commented that he used a local firm to chip it but the chip can actually be turned off if you so desire. To switch it on requires a complex selection of turning certain things on for a couple of times and actually having Cruise control in the car.Without the cruise control he said it wouldnt work.

This chip also gave you access to basically 3 modes

1)default 180 bhp mode

2)A 212 bhp(ish) ron 95 petrol mode and

3)a 227 bhp Ron 98(optimax etc) mode

Not sure about the ins and outs of this chip or if he was trying a bit of the old get me to include cruise control in the package trickiness ;),but he strongly hinted that because the chip was swichoffable(errrrmm :) ) the warrenty,as far as they were concerned was ok.

Of course the guy who was telling me this could be getting a nice little earner from the tuning outfit they where using but it was a strong hint to me that they would *cough* overlook any chipping done by this particular firm. ;)

Has anyone ever heard of a chip that does this sort of thing?.....or is this a remap.I forgot if he said it was a remap or chip....blush ...sorry :).

If the dealer is prepared to ignore for warranty claim purposes a chip which can be turned off, then he should equally ignore the presence of a non-switchable chip! The strength of the Jabba remap is that it is individually tailored to your car and your preferences, unlike most others. Dash, I suggest you have a read of this thread about mods, the my Performance forum, and also the Jabbasport forum.

Dash,

If your dealer is talking about APR's system, then its a damn good product in its own right, a couple of members here have gone down that route and have nothing but praise for it.

It is however, quite a bit more expensive than Jabba, as you need the cruise stalk and then the re-map.

RipRock

If you get hold of a copy of the original Autocar roadtest on the Vrs, that particular press car had been 'breathed on' and will give you a very good basis for comparison with the Teg's on-paper performance.

Three figures for you:-

0 - 60 : 6.7

30-70 : 6.3

0 - 100: 16.7

As mentioned, the power delivery is very deceptive and is less top-endy than an Impreza, let alone a Teg R. By the way, didn't you fancy fitting a Jackson Racing supercharger to it ?! :)

Hmmm sounds tempting, saves a journey down to cambridge aswell ;).Although it would give me a good run out in the tavia when i get it!!! :).I must admit i like the idea of the selectable mode do-da.........extra umphhh when you feel like playing and nice economy mode for motorway trawl......Though i full expect ill Have it stuck on *fast* mode at all times :)......but it sounds sensible.Must have a think about that....espacially as the dealer dropped a *VERY* big hint that they would consider it an acceptable mod.

Fabpreza....."As mentioned, the power delivery is very deceptive and is less top-endy than an Impreza, let alone a Teg R. By the way, didn't you fancy fitting a Jackson Racing supercharger to it ?! "

Hehehe.....hmmm i wish. The teg is defo not the easiest thing to improve in the performance stakes.Takes a lot of

Hi Dash, welcome to Briskoda! :D

I have the APR and it's fantastic. As you're local ( I live in stockport, work in Crumpsall ) , I'd have no problem at all taking you for a spin sometime and showing you the APR in action.

PM me you're if interested. :)

Huck

PS. If the dealer is Horners, there will be no problem. Their sales manager has APR and I basically told him how it worked on his car! The service guys just love seeing our 'breathed upon' Octys too!

  • Author

Hi Huck,Yes m8 it was horners on bury new road :).He sounded knowledgeable and straight down the line and like i said, sounded as if they would have *selective amnesia* regarding the remap/chip ;).Would be very interested in meeting up for a quick blast, you can have a last go in the teg before its time to go aswell :).Ill pm you and we will arrange a go sometime,im only in dukinfield so not far away at all :).
