Morning all,

I have a question with regards to which oil I should use in my car. Think I will use castrol magnitec 10 40 as this is what I have read but this seems to be for the 100bhp 1.4 16v. Would this be ok for mine also.

I have also read a lot of negativity about the 1.4 16v engines with piston rings, does this relate to the BKY engine which was used on the automatic but married up to be used in the sport?

10w40 will be a bit thick when cold to offer good protection to the engine at first start, especially over winter.

5w40 will be better. Quantum Platinum via ebay is usually fairly unbeatable in the value for money stakes. Example here.

The 75 BHP engine is less susceptible to ring problems because it has lower compression and milder cams. I use 10W40, it's absolutely fine for the British climate.

All the 16 valve variants are 10.5:1 compression ratio as far as I can see.
