Daily Telegraph motoring review

Featured Replies

Anyone seen the Daily Telegraph motoring supplement this Saturday ?

A full 3/4 size page picture on the front of the new Octy Vrs along with nearly a full page of text on the next page.

Overall comments were excellent, bad points - yet again idiots who are badge snobs !!!

Also on the back cover some guy was looking to change his RX8 due to changing jobs and doing more miles and was looking for a four seater car with some driving excitement. There were 3 cars suggested with a four 'winner'. Bearing in mind he had

I prefer the kudos of NOT having a BMW.

I think he summed his own badge snob comments up quite well.

Why buy a 5 year old car (which has probably been driven hard by some company car driver and probably had the indicator removal mod carried out ;) ), when you could have a new one which is more reliable and just as much if not more fun.

I personally love my skoda being a skoda, mates laugh at me a lot for buying one, but then a few have had a drive and come back with a big grin on their face and quite shocked! The word is getting round now that it is actually a very good car and they are eating their words:)

Exactly. The vRS is a fantastic package and for the price (and running cost) is even better. Everyone who has a ride/drive in it is surprised by it's performance and refinement.

I think that's it's quite a remarkable job that V.W have done with the Skoda marque. I remember fully all the Skoda jokes and I for one would have NEVER bought one of them, ever. Being a diesel as well goes against all my previous perceptions of a good car.

I don't think that purely shovelling tons of cash into the badge turned around Skoda, must be very clever marketing and the fact that they are so high in the J.D power survey and the like makes you wonder if V.W really expected all this after all. They finished 19th last year and Skoda have been in the top 5 for the last 4 years now. I think that is a fantastic turn around. On top of that, as mentioned, the stigma is still there, even though those people who still tell the lame jokes usually say " yeah, but it's really a Volkswagen now". No it's not. It will always be a Skoda while the badge remains. On that subject, why do some of you guys remove all the Skoda badges ? Are you ashamed ? I know removing the ODD one looks quite good, but I think that part of owning a Skoda nowdays is the pleasure it gives when people now look at the Octavia & Fabia and read all the great reviews that they have and this can only be good for Skoda in the long run.

Don't forget as well, Skoda finished 2nd to Lexus and that takes some achieving. I think it must rate as one of the biggest turn arounds in motoring history. Even when Alfa Romeos wee rotting in the late 70's & 80's they were still good motors but yet they still have that stigma attached to them. Whoever would have thought that Skoda would be in the position they are in today ? Absolutely nobody and i'll bet V.W didn't either. :)

Anyone thats joked about my remapped 4x4 Octy has soon changed their tune after being in the passenger seat for a few miles. ;)
