Stream and Aux Input

Featured Replies

I have a Elegance Octavia with the box between the seat, but no Aux connector in it. There is a CD changer in the boot. I've pondered upgrading to Bolero, and to Stream MP3. I've thought about the bluetooth add on so I can connect phone through that for music and phone. In the end they all seem to be quite a lot of money.

What I'm wondering is as the Aux socket isn't in th box, is it still available on the back of the Stream unit, without disconnecting the CD changer, so that I could bring it out as a 3.5mm jack plug?

I agree completely. I actually managed to get one for 99p plus 6 quid postage to go in mine when I come to sell the car. Guy on ebay didn't really advertise very well and for only 3 days. I found it quite by accident.

Incidentally I was part of that thread Mike refers to and the chap never got it working properly anyway.

OK, so you convinced me on adding Aux to the standard stream.

I've seen some Stream MP3 on eBay, will check here also.  What is the wiring I'm looking for to go in the back to allow Aux to work?

I assume there is no cheap working bluetooth option available?

I like the idea of going Bolero, but the cost of a Bolero, and getting a new Gateway just isn't worth it.

You just need a standard 3 pin shielded aux cable (earth and L/R+ lines), plus a port. I'm sure Mike can look up the part number for you if he sees the thread again but eBay will have them somewhere.

You can add BT to the Stream if you have maxidot using one of the older rSap only modules. But it will only work with certain phones - Samsungs do out of the box while other android phones can be made to work with a cheap rSap app. Iphones are a no go though.

You would need a 5n0 730 035 a/b/c module a GSM antenna, a mic and a BT loom. Note 5n0 ... d or above are no good. Again you can probaby source all on eBay for about 60 quid, or check parts for sale on here.

You will still need a module even if you go the Bolero route but it does allow a wider selection of modules and control via the head unit if you don't have maxidot.

OK, the rSap unit is going for £60 on eBay, but as I don't have a maxidot display it doesn't matter.

So looks like the cheatest option is going to be locating a Stream MP3, get the Aux harness and use good old wires!

Reckon so. Good luck.

It has been done, through a lot of fiddling about, there was a thread about it months/years ago. The standard Stream radio doesn't have an AUX input, the Stream MP3 does.

Simply not worth it - swap the head unit. I've just picked up a fully working Stream MP3 with code for £20 - it was advertised on this very forum in the parts for sale section.

I have a Columbus in mine, and bought the Stream purely to put into the car when the time comes to sell it, but pick one up and it's a 5 minute job to swap the head unit over swap over. You can buy the MP3 socket and wiring, and this just plugs into the quadlock at the back of the radio. This allows the MP3 socket to be used as well as keeping the CD changer working.

Mike, on a tangent from the current thread of fitting an Aux input , I have retrofitted a jumbo arm rest with the Aux input but as it's from a scrappy, and as such, they have just cut the wires after the connecting block under the arm rest. Do you know if there is a separate input into an existing Bolero head unit or do I need a new wire/loom to connect said input to the rear of the unit..

Re the Bluetooth question. I use a Kinovo BTC450 https://www.amazon.co.uk/Kinivo-BTC450-Bluetooth-Hands-Free-input/dp/B009NLTW60

I've hardwired it in to a cigarette socket that lives behind the dash under the ash tray and stuck the button on the dash to the side of the head unit. It plugs in to the aux input of my Stream MP3.

Apart from the button it's all hidden and works really well for music streaming, it's pretty much all I use for music, and is OK for calls.
