boot torch half working- not getting any power

Featured Replies

Hi all, I have an led boot torch in my 2012 superb combi. I changed the batteries and the torch will light up when you press the button. however it never lights up when it is in the holder in the boot and when you open the boot door. I checked with a multimeter to see if the charging dock for the torch is getting any power.

The dock isn't getting any power, is it a separate fuse somewhere or must i start dismantling the boot?!!

I don't think its the torch as it works with fresh batteries, any ideas what I should do?

I know its not the best torch in the world but it bothering me that its the only thing not functioning in the car!

There's a pretty high chance that it's only a fuse. Have a look in the fuse box (Pull the panel the driver's door closes against on the side of the dashboard out and it should be in there). The manual or a card on the inside of the fuse box should tell you what fuse is for what. Even if the fuse looks fine check the resistance across it just in case. If it's not obvious which fuse you need to check you may have to do it one by one, but it should be one of the lower Amperage fuses anyway.

If the replacement batteries you put in aren't rechargeable, they may heat up/leak/catch fire when the car supplies power to the torch and it tries to charge them.

replacement batteries are rechargeable, had a look in the drivers door for a fuse but can't find a dead one, is there a fuse box in the boot somewhere?

just saw your signature, hows your superb doing after the remap, any issues?

In RHD cars it's on the right side of the car - and it's not in the door - it's on the side of the dashboard.

yeah I found the fuse panel but there's nothing for the torch, any other ideas?

There are more fuses in the engine bay, but I'd be surprised if the fuse for the torch was there. Was the boot trim removed for servicing at any point, for example fitting a towbar? The connector to the torch socket might be loose/unplugged. Getting in behind the boot trim isn't too difficult, but certainly not as easy as checking fuses.

The remap hasn't caused any issues yet anyway apart from putting a smile on my face and making overtaking safer. The only thing that's gone wrong (DPF pressure sensor) was a known fault of the engine rather than anything to do with the remap. Supposedly long term there's an increased chance of gasket failure due to the higher pressure in the cylinders, and the higher exhaust gas temperature may even help the DPF to stay clean for longer, but full power only gets used occasionally and never on a cold engine, same rules that got me 60 000 trouble free km on my last remapped car. The guy I got to do it for me is, as far as I know, the best in the country though and the car was rolling road tested before and after to ensure power delivery stayed smooth.

so.......is this problem solve?

I got the same problem recently, the torch is confirmed fine (test in my friend's car). But it didn't charge in my car.
