03 octavia vrs electrical problem

Featured Replies

replaced battery 3 months ago ,driving along and dashboard lights go very din then abs light flickers on then airbag light comes on, car idles rough ,then all lights and radio go off then all off a sudden everything comes back on .dashboard lights all bright again and warning lights go off and car idle perfect .this has happened a few times and its a pain now ,anybody had same problem ??????????

Check the fusebox underside on top of the battery for signs of melting by the alternator feed cable.

Or it could be the sprague clutch in the alternator pulley, but the battery fuses are an easier visual check.

The only time I've seen a one way clutch on a vRS is when the high output alternator from the diesel is fitted.

As far as I am aware, standard vRS models don't have the one way clutch, but it costs nothing to check it anyway.

Check the battery terminals are tight
