Canton subwoofer problems

Featured Replies

Hello Folks is any one else having issues with their canton subwoofer? The subwoofer was repaired as it stopped working it had an open circuit fault when car was scanned. I got the car back and they said their was a broken cable on the subwoofer. The speaker did work after the repair but when listening to music i could hear some distortion in the bass. I but a scope into the speaker and noticed the cone was torn hence the distortion. They ordered a new speaker which took 2 weeks to arrive but then i was in a crash (my poor car) and it took a heavy hit from the rear and i pushed into the stationery car in front. When the car was being repaired they said they replaced the speaker. They had the car for nearly 6 weeks the car has being repaired well and dont have any complaints with the repair and i am a fussy sod. The bass from the speaker seems distorted and if the volume is loud it struggles with not deep bass but higher frequency tones. The flap that open the side panels in the combi has a plastic tab that was vibrating which i have put some tape behind it so it not causing a buzzing. Can anyone with a canton play some music ( bass test from you-tube) and adjust the fader totally to the rear and see if they experience and distortion. I have my doubts they replaced the subwoofer but before i start moaning i would like to know if its a design problem as if it is their not much they can do. Overall i was happy with the sound before the subwoofer stopped and was repaired. Maybe i am paranoid.

I usually have my sub set to +3 and individual bass set to +2, midrange +3, teble +2. I don't play my music overly loud but even when the volume is up and the balance is central or to the rear there is absolutely no distortion.

I haven't tried any specific bass test tracks but here are some I've used in the past, for slow deep subwoofer action

If you want something a bit faster to test a subs reaction timing anything from the new Boris Blank album Electrified will do.

You'll need some decent speakers to hear the low bass tone on this one. It will make a mockery of the Canton sub but this track rocked on the 12" sub in my old car.
