Chain.

Thanks Brian, I'm told chain is cheaper to get done? What is the advised time of service as I've just hit 32000

I asked this at Dealership not so long ago when I got full service done and the manager said CHAIN on VRS is there for life! Cambelt change at 40K miles for normal fabias, someone correct me if I have been give duff info.

Save up your money for when the water pump needs doing, that will be when there is an issue with the magnetic clutch for the supercharger.

If lucky you will not need it doing.

hi George what is the signs of a waterpump failure clutch wise. mine judders a bit 2nd to 1st when its cold at a roundabout but then its always been like that

The Warning light on for Engine Emissions Control and no Turbo as it is inhibited.

(possibly a little coolant loss.)

Still not common though, so chill.

Was your DSG ever giving the Service Campaign work or was it one that needed it?

I had a Water Pump / Supercharger Clutch done last month at a main dealership and posted a thread with the part numbers,

cant search it now. 2 Hour Diagnostic and Parts including 2 belts & seal, pump, coolant, labour £632,  Diagnostics not really needed, but 1 hour likey will be charged.

Here is an old thread on them.

EDIT.

Yes defo had the mineral oil checked, dont know exactly what they did though.

I am just pre-empting potential failure modes for OEM parts. Think ive covered everything last few months!

All this research for a 5 mile jourrney to work & back. i should get a bicycle & stop thinking about cars!

?

What do you mean, did your car have mineral oil from the factory.

Or did they change the Synthetic to Mineral and do the DSG Software Update and put a sticker in the boot?

As to your new Oil Spray Jets & Breather pipes, did you check if a Software Update was done at that time?

i honestly dont know about the mineral oil if it was just checked or actually changed. where is the sticker in boot?? will have a look

Re oil fixes

ECU was done according to manager buts it not on the paperwork, so im not convinced. Im mapping the car soon so not worried about ECU

For the DSG service It must be this small one as Simpsons is not where i bought the car from.

Rather than anything to do with changing gear, the waterpump clutch disconnects the supercharger at higher revs from the induction system when the turbocharger takes over, see attached.
