Tyre wear front and back exactly the same?

Featured Replies

Hi All,

A quick question for you that currently has me puzzled! I put 4 brand new Contintental tyres on my Skoda Superb II back in June. Since then they've done 21,000km. When I had the car in the garage last week for a quick bi of work, they told me the front 2 tyres were worn and needed replacing, which I knew already. When I got home and looked myself, the back 2 tyres were also worn to the exact same amount (down to just level with the indicators). So I had to order 4 new tyres. I asked the guy fitting them today if he thought it was odd, and he said he thought it was very odd. But he couldn't offer any explanation for it.

Normally there's just myself and the wife in car. Twice a week, as well as us there's about 40kg extra weight in the boot. Very rarely do we have passengers. I inflate the tyres to the recommended pressures (2.1 bar front and 2.3 back) and don't adjust it for the extra 40kg (shouldn't need to).

I always thought the rear tyres last much longer (and they have on the car previously), so what I'm wondering is: is something wrong with the suspension or the car (and if so, what could it be), or is it something unique to the Continentals I had on there? The car was NCT'd (Irish MOT) back in August and serviced in July and no faults were found.

Any thoughts most welcome!

Sure and that's most unusual. Even if you were mostly cruising dual carriageway at steady speeds.

The mileage is fairly low to have worn out your fronts and especially the rears. Just replaced my Bridgestone Potenza fronts this am after 19000 miles with about 2mm on the front outer edges and 5-6mm all across both the rears.

i have conti sport contact 5's on my octavia 2 vrs tfsi and they've done exactly the same plus they've only lasted about 10,000 miles front and back i won't be putting them on again. its not even driven that hard as my mrs only drives it to work up the m1 not really any back roads, its really strange as the goodyear f1 a3's that they replaced did 2 sets of fronts to one set of back.
