Stage 2+ on standard clutch?

Featured Replies

Has anyone done this with much success?

I wouldn't have expected a standard clutch to hold out for long with the added torque but I was speaking to AMD and they say they have cars running stage 2+ on a standard clutch.

I was on the phone to them to order a loba+Sachs set up but it's no longer made and they only do a Spec clutch which is about £14-1500 and will take a few weeks to get here.

I ran 360bhp on standard clutch no problems

How many miles do you think you did on it mate? Been reading online and the idea gets mixed opinions but I'll be using a new clutch and DMF as mine is slipping.

If I get a standard clutch I should be able to get a FMIC and HPFP leaving just a map for stage 2+.

Thanks for the reply.

Mine couldn't cope with stage 2+, swapped out for a Sach performance clutch in the end. Think I was unlucky, it was so heavy it ruined the car (and to a degree, my knee!) and I sold it in the end.

Worth trying yours with a stage 2+ - you may well be fine but keep some cash handy just in case.

If you're changing the clutch anyway,it makes sense to fit an uprated one.

Especially as you plan to go to stage 2+

Thanks for the replies.

I bought the standard clutch, fmic, pump internals and a belter of an electric impact gun all for the same price as an uprated clutch. I now have all the hardware for stage 2+.

I searched online and it was a mixed bag of people who had good results and folk who had bad, the folk who have bad experiences all had fairly high mileage on the standard clutch.

I plan on fitting an lsd sometime next year so I'll see how the standard clutch goes up till then.

I think Harry is potentially getting shot of his monster - may well be far more cost effective buying his and selling on yours!

FWIW, I'm on original clutch/DMF and I've got 75k on the clock and I'm planning to go stage 1 in the spring. As long as you're not hoofing it from low revs, you should cope.

Mines stage 1 on 88k miles, and it slips after a couple of hard launches, but otherwise no sign of slippage.

I'm hoping to go stage 2+ next year, but I want an uprated clutch first, as I'd want the maximum the tuner could safely give me, and wouldn't be happy if the torque had to be limited to prevent slip.

Im running 225bhp on a vrs derv. Oem clutch couldnt not cope so upgraded but you have to put up with it being heavy, even with a dmf
