Just bought a copy of 'Whar Car' and it quotes the new Octavia vRS ar Group 9!!

Is this correct? Thats a massive drop from the old one !!

When I took one for a Drive the Stealer told me Group 17........ Bigger Engine More Power??

my old octy vrs was group 17

New one is Group 15E

Old one is Group 16

so WHICH is the new insurance group then for the vrs?

You can look up insurance groups on the ABI's site below. The new Octavia vRS Hatch and Estate are in group 15E.

The Golf GTi is listed as group 17E on that site, yet Numerous insurance companies have quoted the Octavia £20-£50 per year MORE than the VW. Goes to show that group ratings are only part of the date they use to decide your premium.

The ABI website also has this to say, so as always shop around for insurance:

Please note that insurance group ratings are purely advisory. They are used by insurers (ABI members and Lloyd’s syndicates) as one of the factors in calculating premiums. Insurers are not required to follow the advisory group ratings and they may depart from them if they so wish.

Not for me, the VW was actualy cheaper to insure than the SKoda.
