Clutch judder 1.4TSI

Featured Replies

I own a 1.4TSI ACT Skoda superb which I bought in February 2016. Very please except one issue.

I have an annoying clutch judder when the engine is cold. The dealer test drove it and diagnosed it as being connected with the catalytic converter and was a know issue. Anyone else have a similar issue with a juddering clutch? The car has covered 6000 miles.

Has it done it since new or has it just come on since the colder weather?

Who in the Dealership drove it, the Master Tech or someone else. and if it is a known issue what are the Dealership doing to make it a gone away known issue.

ie, What is the Fix that Skoda CZ have come up with.

Surely it is not a Known Issue the Engineers designed in as a characteristic.

Have another employee at the Dealership at the Service Desk have a Courtesy Car arranged so they can get your car in and fixed.

The issue is known, if they do not know how to fix it they might need to find a competent Trained & Qualified adult that does.

I am certainly no mechanical  expert but I fail so see how a catalytical converter  can make a clutch judder.

Pointed this out to the dealer and got the usual flim flam rubbish response ..... Why do they always assume the customer is an idiot! Anyway before pushing harder / returning thought I would get other feedback on issue as amo.

No such issues encountered with my mental 1.4 ACT after 17,000 miles now.

Why is your ACT mental? and  that you have no such trouble, suggests the originator's case is unique, but if not, as he says , why  nothing done to rectify it. A juddering clutch would ordinarily  suggest  something wrong with engine or gearbox  mountings but  with " all in one " systems now, I would have thought that more unlikely, but even more so anything  due to a cat?. A knocking maybe, but not a juddering.

I'd be interested to hear a bit more clarification from the dealer on how the catalyst could initiate clutch judder, that usually reveals whether it is just salesman bs or not.

The problem is of course that you experience it when the engine is cold so that means it is difficult for them to experience themselves without leaving the car overnight.

I have a similar problem (not clutch) with my manual 1.4tsi Octavia which occurs intermittently after the first cold start of the day.

My engine fires first crank every time and settles to a steady tick over (great so far) then I exit the garage and progress slowly down the back lane in first gear to the public road. So the clutch is fully engaged and I am trying to control the speed with a light throttle but instead of a steady speed it is very jerky and unsteady.

When I get to the public road and can accelerate normally the jerkiness is still apparent for the first couple of hundred metres of so and then it clears.

It does not happen every time, such as when left at the dealer for them to experience (sigh) and occurs less when the weather is colder.

I think it is over fuelling as average consumption for the first kilometre is notably more than when it doesn't.

Maybe it is a known problem with the catalytic converter? :)

BMW 3 series and 1 series have a common issue with clutches when cold..  tends to be diesels though..

Hi

My Superb had a same problem. Dealer replaced flywheel and clutch. Now the judder problem is gone. The reason is not suitable or deffectiv surface of clutch disc or flywheel.

But i have another problem taht disturbs me. When  ACT is avtice i hear  or i sense vibration or noise or rumble from engine.

Used to get it with my Fiat Multipla when starting off from some overnight cold starts. Was told that condensation can form on the clutch plates overnight.
