Quick question for the tech savvy (1.4TSI)

Featured Replies

Having been out of the car development loop for a good few years, and seeing as how you guys know your stuff, can someone confirm this.

Does the latest version of the 1.4TSI (Turbo only) use direct injection AND the multi point injection to wash the intake valves, and stop them from gumming up like they did on the 1.8 and 2.0 TSI engines?

Some of the images I've been viewing on the USA VAG owners club forum are truly shocking. Combination of direct injection only, and PCV/EGR really dumping soot and oil into the inlet manifold and inlet valves.

Thanks in advance.

Just Google

vw ea211 direct injection

Plenty of info.

There are a few things you can do:

A) ignore the potential problem. This engine has been around for over 3 years and fitted in a number vag group vehicles with few reports of issues in this forum at least.

B) Follow Vw's advice and subject the engine to regular sustained revs. 3500rpm for 20 minutes I think, to shake off the carbon.

C) Fit a catch can

D) Factor in an inlet clean at some stage after 70k miles (ish)

Seems to be largely a US problem.

I'll go for the Italian tune up of 3,500 revs
