Factory Fitted (I think) 6 CD Changer Problem

Featured Replies

Hello all,

Am i correct in thinking that the Cd changer in the boot of my MK1 Octavia is factory fitted? I ask because it has started displaying the word 'Surface' on the display in the car and it wont play any CDs whichever slot I put them in, I even tried them back to front but still the same,

It was working fine the other day.

Has anyone else had this problem?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance

Michael

The CD player will almost certainly be the factory fitted item, You could try putting a lens cleaning CD in ??

As above.

Water ingress around the CD Changer/ Cable/Connector is very common too.

I have tried a lens cleaner already infact that was the first thing I tried, i havent checked for water/dampness where you have said but I will check tomorrow.

Thank you both for your quick replies.

It's due to condensation build up in the surface of the disc and laser head. Normally to do with water ingress into the boot area below the cd changer. Had the same on mine, stopped the water ingress and stopped the fault.

Is there likely to be a hole somewhere close to the CD changer where the water is getting in?

Under the changer, under the carpet, there is a joiner on the rear window washer fluid pipe which tends to pop off from time to time.

it may have happened a previous owner and theres still damp in it.

could be worth disconnecting it, and putting it in the hot press for a few days..

Edit - i meant the cd changer be disconnected.

Also, the joiner may be loose or leaking. Its not really an ideal spot for a water pipe tbf.. running over and beside the main cable harness to everything at the back of the car

Thanks mac11irl,

I will have a look at that tomorrow and can hopefully get it sorted.

As stated washer pipe is where to start mine was coming from behind the boot seal (mines an estate though). I siliconed my boot seal on and it's not leaked since.
