So not a Mondeo, Octavia or Superb but a VRS in drag, what does it all mean?

I'm not sure, I'm at a complete loss at this stage whether to throw more money at it or to change it, but i have so little money i will only be able to afford an old clapped out lemon like this again so I've no idea what to do with it to be honest

The engine does shake quite violently when it idles rough but i very rarely get the gear selection issue now, its still knotchy occasionally in lower gears but nothing too major. To be honest, I was banking on a new clutch/dmf kit fixing the rest of the problems. Are all the things you suggested in an earlier post easy things for a garage to check?

Is it running on three cylinders at times? Have you had any codes read?

I used to think it was great until it needed a new head gasket and then it comes back running rough at idle and occasionally struggling to start from cold. I'm so fed up at this stage, all I'm after is a good, reliable car that doesn't spend most of its life in the garage. It seems to be pretty powerful so i would say no to running on 3 cylinders, only a glow plug fault read with an obd2 reader which was cleared after head gasket and hasn't returned

Thanks

Sounds like the timing is slightly off, you need to check the torsion value with VCDS, your symptoms are classic post timing belt change.

The PD is notoriously sensitive to fractional timing inaccuracy.

Okay, do you know where i can get vcds from please? Also, it only struggles to start occasionally when its cold like maybe 1 in 3 sub 4oc starts and then once the engine is warm, it starts fine. Is that possibly the timing very slightly out too?

VCDS Lite which is the free version is here...

www.ross-tech.com/vcds-lite/index.php

Not sure if the free version has what you need though. Others may know.

It's only ninety nine bux for a licence.

Money well spent.

Where did you find that it said £90, I thought they were £200 plus?

Purely out of curiosity. Does this sound like early DMF failure?

Possibly, hard to tell with the shaky video.

It seems like a DMF failing isn't a noise you can mistake! Unless it gets a lot worse than that, I wouldn't worry.

I had hoped the audio was clearer than the video itself. The video was taken two years ago and recently that noise has disappeared and I get a fair amount of vibration through the cabin, steering wheel and pedals etc instead. It mostly vibrates around the 1,900rpm mark (like a very deep noted vibration) which is where the peak torque is on my engine, which makes me think it's early DMF failure. Just curious as I'm sure it could be worse than it is

What mileage is your car on? A DMF will wear out eventually, so if you are past 90-100k miles, i'd say it is no surprise.

135k. The noise in the video started around the 100k mark and left at roughly 130k to leave this deep vibration. I also get quite bad vibration through the steering wheel for the first 10 miles or so in the mornings and then it fades but that may be another issue. Are DMF's worse when cold do you know?

You are well into new DMF territory then! I believe they are worse when cold.

I'm sure i've seen a few posts of people saying that the rattles got better towards the end of the life of the DMF for some reason. If you have the funds and are looking at keeping the car going, I'd say it is due a new one. Or at least get a specialist to give a proper opinion.

That's handy to know. I am looking to keep the car long term, IMO it's way better than anything I can get in my current budget and it would suit me better to pay for all the work it needs. Thanks again

I think you're probably right, best to keep a car you know than to change for something unknown! Best of luck with it

Exactly, better the devil you know they say. Thanks! :)
