windows 10 thread stuck in device driver

Featured Replies

Windows helpfully decided to update something just before a member was to come over for a vcds hookup and now windows keeps crashing with the following error - windows thread stuck in device driver

I've done a roll back, tried new audio and graphics drivers but just as I thought it was fixed it happened again.

Event viewer seems to show the crash, but not the driver.

I do have a CPU with embedded Radeon (AMD A4 series 1250) graphics which from Google seems to be a recurring theme.

Currently have uninstallled the graphics and running on vga mode which at least is giving me longer between the crashes.

Any pointers appreciated

Windows update is one thing which causes a crash

But it cant possibly be Microsofts fault, they are so WONDERFUL.

Not a lot of help, but this reminds me of the jovial post "If Microsoft made cars".

But Gadgetman is so smart, I am sure he can figure out one of the several obvious solutions.

It's tonight's task. Your vote of confidence is appreciated.

Seems to be resolved. Windows appears to have doubled up my processor and audio but each reported a different driver.

Uninstalled both, rebooted and all *appears* stable again.

Not sure which update did it or why as it was only the malicious detection update and a few security updates for office.

And why don't people like apple?

And why don't people like apple?

Because they take over 3 bloody years to update the Mac Pro grr!

And why don't people like apple?

I do... love my macbook pro! Have to use a windows laptop for work tho :(

Glad its all fixed @Gadgetman! Hopefully see you soon!

Let us know when M$ updates over-writes it and buggers it all up again.

I have no idea if it was the update or not.

Given 10 devices running every flavour of Windows since 95 this is the first issue following an update - which maybe completely coincidental because none of the updates involved changing system settings or windows. Only the malicious removal tool and office updates.

A few months before they started pushing Win10, and I turned off updates, Malicious Tools Removal decided my legitimate Win7 licence was a fake and deleted it, I now have to use a fake license!!!

just installed a m/s update and get a black boot screen and thats it

managed finally to f10 and select drive to boot

just going to format and start again

Not a radeon graphic card by chance?

No Intel HD integrated

It was all fine until an update on Monday

Restarted fine

Next morning black screen

F10 boot

Repaired windows via Samsung utility

Fine for a day or so

Same again this morning

No idea what caused it

I keep having problems with win10 pro doing fecking updates when I asked it not to...I know it has as it messes up the sound settings which are all set to mute & suddely they are at MAX!!!!!

Flipping M$ thinks it's drivers are better than my Realtek ones.....common problem......

You cannot easily stop M$ from "updating" Win10 without isolating the device from any and all access to t'interwebs.

Even registry hacks dont always stop it, somehow it reinitialises itself (registry back-ups) like a virus!!!

And it will keep downloading the wrong drivers over and over again, M$ dont seem to care to fix it, no matter how many people scream.

I think the Lenovo warning a few days ago proves that, M$ know full well that the next set of updates is going to break a lot of Lenovo gear, but have they pulled the update?? No.

Don't get these problems with a mac... :p  just saying  :D

But you can't build a mac to your exact spec & easily repair it.....

I have rebuilt my own computers the past 8yrs, & I reused various bits from my last computer in this one.

there is no way I could get my spec in a mac....unless I spend double the cost & even then I doubt it....

Really? I am sure I read of issues with the last update killing some iMacs

This is true... if your using your pc for specific high load tasks i.e gaming or video editing your best off with a pc all day long. as an everyday device i prefer my Mac, plus it copes really well with my DJ software and i can run windows in bootcamp if i need to. I wasn't having a dig and im not a apple fan boy in the slightest in fact ive got a non fruit based mobile! :)

Possibly, didn't read about it... don't get me wrong, Macs are not bulletproof dream machines! mine has been repaired 3 times for graphics card issues :)
