Steering wheel

Featured Replies

I'm in the process of ordering a sel estate dsg(with paddles)am torn between having a heated wheel,or a aftermarket vrs flat bottom version.i llove the idea of the heated wheel, but thought looked slightly cheap.where as the vrs version looks fabulous.any thoughts????

First thing I did  a year ago when I got the car was change the steering wheel with a perforated VRS flat bottom version.

The original is cheap and not pleasant to touch.

Well that's got me thinking about changing mine now  :p

I've got DSG paddles and found this one: http://skodadop.com/en/octavia-iii-/interer-octavia-iii/multirul-so-skosom-lepestkami-shkoda-oktaviya-iii-rs-s-belym-shvom.html

It's also got the right buttons on it (assist sys menu shortcut). I don't think red stitching would work with my beige interior.

Anyone changed a steering wheel with paddles? theoretically it should be like for like, but you never know.....

You don't need the switches you can simply take the ones from your old wheel and clip them into the new one, not sure about the paddles but I would guess they would just as easily be transferred.

The one in the link looks like it comes with the buttons already fitted. It's not a bad price either by the looks of it. Sans airbag of course but that's not a problem.

yeah that's the wheel with the white stitching.i just wish I could order the heated wheel?swap it for the flat bottomed version?which would then be heated!! Does anybody know how the heated bit works....

It'll no doubt be some sort of heating element embedded in the outer rim of the wheel. Not sure if the whole thing is heated, or just the bits you normally hold on to. Either way, it's extremely doubtful that you could retrofit the heating to a wheel that doesn't have it.

A heated version of the flat bottomed wheel might appear one day, depending on Octavia vRS and/or Superb Sportline factory options.

The Octavia buttons are different to the Superb's

I bought a vRS FBSW and fitted it with my Superb buttons, then sold my 4 mile old wheel on.

Providing your car came with flappy paddles then they will work perfectly (with the Superb's buttons)

The non vRS trim on the bottom spoke is stupid money mind (i refuse to spend that much on one)

Ok, transplanting from one to the other it is then

I'm guessing the Octavia buttons don't play nice with the Superb's steering column controller? as they look physically the same in the picture.

The vRS trim is a bit of a niggle I'll admit. Doesn't the vRS badge just pull out of the chrome surround, making it possible to mod it a little?

The buttons work OK IIRC, but when you plug the flappy paddles in you cannot get them to change gear.

The vRS button I had did not have a ''assist' button, so I never intended to use it.

Yes the vRS badge pulls off, I have considered sanding the vRS off and painting it black again.

I didn't mind it (same wheel in our Yeti), but the perforated leather wheels feel much nicer IMO.

The original wheel is just fine. It is average for a family car. It is comfortable enough to use.

The sports wheels are obviously a better ergonomic package but I havent felt the need to pay extra to retrofit one. (yet  ;) )

As to the VRS badge. Superskoda do 2 different replacements for that little bit of trim. One is all 'silver'; the other silver with black honeycomb.

Whoops, just noticed the Superskoda trims are not suitable for flat bottomed wheels. Sorry to have misled.

does the flatbottom wheel make the reach any shorter? Or is it the same as standard. I've always said the s2 we have at present, the wheel doesn't extend far enough towards you. Thank I advance paul

The reach is identical

So the flappy paddles work ok when you transplant the Superb 3's buttons into the new steering wheel? I haven't looked at it properly but I now assume the paddles are part of the button modules?

Not sure TBH, but the buttons plug into the flappy paddles (it might be the other way round) so they need to be connected together.

I ordered my L&K with flappy paddles, ordered a new vRS FBSW c/w flappy paddles and obviously multi function buttons, all I swapped was the buttons, so I have vRS wheel and paddles and Superb buttons.

Hi.

I picked up my Superb Sportline this week and that came with a three spoke flat bottom steering wheel so could you not find one of these to fit rather than a VRS one?

Would someone mind putting up a picture of both steering wheels, before and after, so we have something to compare them with? I'm curious to see which side I'm on...

My dealer said that the SportLine flat bottom steering wheel is the VRS steering wheel, but I guess some pictures would clear up this mistery

They are the same wheel (but minus the vRS badge)

vRS / Sportline: (silver / white stitching, as the Sportline)

The eagle eyed amongst you will notice the bottom trim is not flush as it's the OE trim on a flat bottom wheel (the FBSW needs a smaller trim)

Oh and the bottom photo also shows the vRS / Sportline stainless pedals

As Gizmo correctly states, the Octavia 3 buttons work perfectly well on the Superb but will not shift gears on the paddles. You will need the Superb 3 buttons (part no. 3V0 919 719B) which include the ports for the paddle ribbon cables.

I would go for the heated MFSW. My OCD can´t handle a VRS badge on the steering wheel, when the car is NOT a VRS :)
