Knock/Clunk from suspension going over bumps when turning?

Featured Replies

I've had my drop links changed twice since having the car lowered on the B12 Bilstein/eibach kit and yet again the knock/clunk has returned. The car was 4 wheel aligned at the start of the summer after fitting new drop links so why has it returned? It only happens why I turn and go up over a lowered curb or bump, could it be the anti-roll bar bushes? Are there better quality drop links I can fit instead of the eBay rubbish I'm clearly fitting???

I have this too and have been looking for solutions. Top mounts seems to be a popular opinion for the noise.

This may have already been mentioned, but is the spring intact and hasn't lost a part off the top end of the coil. Whilst I was away earlier this year, swmbo noticed an intermittent knocking which, when investigated, was found to be a broken spring. Approximately one inch of the spring had snapped off. Spring replaced and all good.

Cheers lads I'll give the Top Mounts and springs a check over.

Another vote for top mounts and bearings. I was amazed just how much quieter both the 54 plate and 08 plate Octys were when the top mounts were changed.

Would you recommend replacing the whole mount or just the bearing? I'm looking on eurocarparts and can't seem to workout which of these I need...or if I need both!

Cheers

What's the likelihood of this being an issue front AND rear? I have a light knocking both sides, front and rear, when traversing small bumps. Is there any sensible way to diagnose this other than just changing the mounts?

In my experience an annoying knock, when all other sources had been checked, was a rear shock absorber/damper.

It had a strange small bit of give/slop in its travel rather than a smooth transition when changing direction, obviously due to some internal fault. I checked it by removing and push/pulling the ends hard by hand.

I replaced it and the noise was cured.

Just goes to show it needn't be obviously worn components that cause noises.
