Wheel Weight - Octy Vrs Alloys

Featured Replies

Does anyone how much the standard 17" Octavia VRS alloys weigh in at? The 18" BBS jobbies I'm looking at weigh in at a rather lardy 24.2kg (ish)....

I think my 17s weighed in at about 15kg each, IIRC. It was quite a while ago when I last read the booklet, and now I don't even know where the hell it is. :( - They were light enough to pick up and do a bit of dumb-bell style bicep exercise at least.

BUT, they're not vRS alloys which I suspect have more metal than mine... Come on you vRS owners, this was posted over half an hour ago and no-one's piped up how much their wheels weigh? :D

Jason, perhaps it is because the average vRS owner - if such a person exists - can't be bothered to use a set of tyre levers to remove a tyre from their alloy spare (assuming they have one) and then weigh the wheel on the bathroom scales.

I'm not seconding that comment... I just figured it's one of those facts that's rattling around every eccentric octy vRS owner's head? As a guess I will say 16kg.

I have wheighed my wheels. 19.6kg for a 17" rim with 205/50 Continentals. My 18" BBS CH with 225/40 Dunlops wheighed 1kg less :) Still, the stock wheels should be considered pretty light.

Edit: a 17" or 18" tyre weighs ~10kg

Thanks for that Chrille - I appreciate the efforts you've gone to! I'm thinking about CH's, and it's nice to know I won't compromise performance by increasing unsprung weight etc!
