Tavia Tyres

Featured Replies

I'm going to need some new tyres on my Tavia Turbo soon. Does anyone know the best ones to go for?

I've been thinking of Goodyear Eagle F1. Is this a good choice?

Welcome to Briskoda, Gaz. :D

There has been a lot of discussion about choice of tyres on Briskoda, and expert advice has been posted in my Performance recently. This is what Real Skoda had to say:

"On this it would seem to be a toss up between 2 or 3 tyres. Most recommended, in our opinion, are Pirelli P Zero Nero or Rosso. Dry grip is exceptional and in the wet they aren

I had goodyear F1 gsd3 on my scooby, very good. not as nice a turn in as pirelli p zero but more grip and muchmuchmuch better in the wet. i have heard though that the toyo's are the best but have also heard that they wear quickly, never got to try em on scoob but will probably be first choice on new Tavia rs when I get it.

Thanks for that info guys.

 considering the Toyo Proxes as a replacement for my Marshalls when they wear out - Will be more expensive than just putting new Marshalls on again though. :( - Will have to see how wealthy I feel at the time.

tyres have got to be the best mod for your car.??

the bit that actually touches the ground and all that:)

IMHO I would allways put the best tyres and nothing else on a car that got driven.

True - always put money before performance up to now, although the Marshalls seem to be a decent budget tyre, and they only lose grip in extreme situations, like hurtling around Wales after a vRS Octy.

Toyo Proxes will be my next choice I reckon though - I'll probably be well impressed with them.

Recent Autocar test (couple of weeks ago) had Pirelli PZero Rosso top followed closely by Goodyear F1.

Toyos came in last due to some techincal infrigement but in the wet tests still weren't better than the Pirellis or Goodyears.

I'm running Rossos at the moment and they're much beter than the standard Dunlops.......quieter, better grip and feel, dry or wet....and they cost arond the same as the 205/50/17 sized Dunlops....I got 225/45/17.

Can anyone confirm if my long-standing opinion of GoodYears still applies..

ie, damn good tyres, but soft as hell and therefore last about 5 minutes

I had them on all my cars up to the Cav GSi and they always seemed to wear rather quickly.

The goodyaer f1's I had on my scoob seemed to wear ok but I only had them on for a few thousand miles, although they were pushed pretty hard most of the time :D and scooby's eat tyres!

if you check scooby net no one seems to rate the pirelli's as high as the toyo's or the goodyear's (well, apart from solsberg and makinen on a wet spannish road that is, but think maybe they get a slightly different product:D )

cant see there would be much difference on different cars?

main thing I noticed between the pirelli's (pzero) and goodyear's (GSD3) was :-

pzero

better turn in due to stiffer side walls

GSD3

softer side walls so not as crisp on turn in

better IMHO grip in dry

much better grip in wet

allso these felt more progressive when exploring the limits of available grip

on my scoob I was running 215/40/17

do you think that the lower profile would meen less difference felt on stiffness of side wall? would this difference be felt much more with a Tavia rs due to the 50 profile? and would this hinder tyre

performance?

what tyre and wheel combo's are people running on there Tavia rs?

interested in this as I should be taking delivery of mine to replace Scoob in the next fortnight.

F1s on my Tavia are now 1000 miles old. Wearing fine, but still a little too early to tell.

Have them in 225/45 size and they grip better than the old 205/50 Contisports, also have a noticably better ride. Knocks off 2-3 mpg though :(

R U running the 45 profile with 17's? and have you got any probs with the 225 width?

standard rs wheels?

thnx

Running Pirelli PZero Rosso 225/45/17.

Much better than the Dunlops...quieter, better grip and handling. Also found they knock off around 3mpg.....must be the higher rolling resitance (softer compound?).

I concur with my Northern colleague - soft as clarts - only 8k out of a pair of fronts on a Mondeo 1.8. Great grip, though!

I'm running F1s in 225/45 ZR17 as they aren't available (correct me if I'm wrong) in 205/50.

I'm using the standard RS 7x17" inch wheels.
