Superb Alloys - Big difference in prices

Featured Replies

Hi Guys

Looking at pricing up an alloy for my Superb.   Now from what I can see I have 18inch Luxon alloy wheels?  See below: -

I have phoned a number of dealers now quoting my reg number and most are saying £388 inc vat per alloy.

Horton Skoda - http://www.theskodashop.co.uk/product/Luxon_18%22_3T0071498B7ZS

On their website they are £162 inc vat.  Speaking to Skoda Reading they have said the £388 price is the original wheel and the price around £162 is the accessory wheel.  The guy said they both the same but why sell the more expensive one?

This comes up fairly frequently. The higher price is the retail price dealers will hope you'll pay for the wheel: it's essentially the showroom price. Aimed at those who want to upgrade wheels at the last minute sort of thing. The lower price is the spare part price which is what you should be quoted from the parts desk. It's a marketing trick mostly.

in my head i was thinking it was the other way around:

- the lower price is the "upgrade" price at time of ordering but requires the sacrifice of the existing wheels you have chosen for the car, so 162 is difference between the exisiting one and the new one, which would usually be done 4 times

- the higher price is the "i want an extra one" or the few months down the line "I've broken one"  so price is higher.

much as that way round makes sense in my head, your way round wouldn't suprise me for a dealer's point of view

I had that for my L&K, £178 accessory and £380+ for parts.

You don't even need to use the search function, it's still on the first page  :D

My bad I didn't spot that.  I did try searching for Luxon but nothing came up.

Thanks guys for clearing it up.  It's good to know that I can get a replacement for £162.  My S2000 alloys were £600 each.

Imagine how many people pay £388
