First mot ?

Featured Replies

Hi, I've had to rejoin this group as I couldn't remember my log in details for my old membership, so it'll show as my first post but it isn't really.

Any way, my yeti went for its first mot yesterday and It has come back with an advisory, which is "propshaft rear damper worn"

The car has only done 15,000mls, not something I was expecting on its first mot. It's still under warranty ATM.

Does anyone know anything about these dampers, is it a common thing to wear out? Will it be covered under the warranty? I've emailed the dealer, so waiting for a response about it, amongst other issues I have with the car.

Thanks

PM me some 'last account' details and I'll look into it for you

If the car is under 3 years old then it will be covered by the warranty.

Yes, it's still under warranty till 31st Dec but I'm going into hospital on 27th for an operation.

They won't do anything about it without seeing it first.

Any other dealer have just taken my word for it, ordered the bits and then fit them no problem, but these lot won't do a thing without seeing it.

Same with the wheels that they took photos of in October. They want to see them again!!!

Waste of space they are!!!

The dealer has probably had his/her fingers burnt before, trying to get compensation from the supplier I would guess.

Phone Skoda UK, explain what has happened and the actions of the dealer. From my experience of my dealer, as long as they KNOW about it before the end of the warranty then it will be dealt with under the warranty.

And find another dealer!

In theory they should order the part for first time fix. They are allowed to send the parts back at no cost so there is no harm in being prepared.

I've rang another dealer this morning, couldn't have been more helpful.

I explained my situation and they have made a note of it, inc the Matterhorns starting with the white worm and they will pass it on to the after sales on Wednesday. He said usually, as long as it is noted before the warranty runs out. It can be sorted at a later date.

So hopefully it will come good????

Has anyone else had this problem with this propshaft damper thing?

I have but I'm very high mileage vehicles. I think maybe it's a bit over the top of the inspector to fail it.

Is that the rubber donut shaped guibo coupling....which AFAIK connects the prop shaft to the back of the gearbox (or front of the Haldex) and acts as a vibration damper.

Shouldn't be u/s that quick

This wouldn't have been Telfords by any chance would it?

They haven't; it was an advisory. On which general subject either I have a self-repairing car or advisories aren't always worth the paper they're written on, because I've had an advisory on a specific item one year and not in the following 3 years.

Good that it is an Advisory from that MOT, because that is a forewarning.

So raise it within the Warranty Time and have a Skoda Main Dealers Tech approve a replacement or not and then it is on the Skoda System,

and if not replaced but causes issues or a failure soon after the Manufacturers Warranty Expires there is something to bring up.

PS

Rather than Fixed Servicing that would have one due before the Warranty Expires is it on Variable and not getting a Service before 3 years has passed?

If it was in for a Service the Technician doing the inspection might have picked up on 'the damper'.
