Will my alarm work?

Featured Replies

Last night a neighbour who parks his car on the road near our house had his back passenger door window broken by a thief and a jacket stolen from the rear seat of the car.

If the thief returned and broke a window on my year old Fabia Colour Edition MPI would it automatically set off the alarm, presuming I'd locked the car, or not?

Sorry if it seems a daft question but I'm not sure how effective the alarm would be in that situation.

Thatcham requires that the ultrasonic sensor can pick up rear windows being broken. So if it has an alarm, it should work. On older cars they don't always have that kind of sensor.

The alarm will not go off if you have not locked the car and the alarm is set.

Then if it goes off when the car is locked & the window is broken the thief has legged it anyway with the jacket or whatever.

The difference is that you or someone has been alerted.

Yes, it's being alerted that I'm really enquiring about.

The car is always locked and alarmed so, in theory, we should get an indication that there's a problem as soon as it happens.

The neighbours car didn't have any type of alarm and it was mid-morning before he realised he'd been robbed.

Thanks for the prompt replies.

Leave a rear window open, lock the car, reach in and see if you have an alarm that will go off.

Safest not to leave stuff in the car,

even the boot is not safe if someone wants stuff from a car, but at least they do not see it in the boot.

Hi - Has your car got the little square button on the B-pillar behind the driver's door?  If so, then it has the Alarm that monitors the interior (the ultrasonic type that lowedb mentions above) - if not, then it just has the "perimeter" alarm -  the standard one that only goes off if a door, bonnet or rear hatch is opened.

See handbook - around page 50 .. on the June 2016 version..... that's the Fabia Mk3 book.

It's the same on the Mk2 Fabia - you have "MPI" written there - I'm taking it that your's is a Mk2 Fabia??  (is it the confusingly named Mk2 Fabia 3 - not the same as a Mk3 Fabia ??!!)

Same system on both anyway.

Colour edition mk3 1.0 MPI most likely.
