Battery charging.

Featured Replies

Having read of the problems arising from starting from external sources - is it OK to charge the battery while it is in the car? I am thinking here of trickle charge overnight when the car is not in fairly constant use. Thanks.

With a decent trickle charger it will be fine. Just make sure that the bonnet does not close on the charger clips and cause a short across the terminals.

I can highly recommend the CTek intelligent chargers, for me they have reconditioned a couple of batteries that the so-called experts declared as dead.

I agree with this but it's also worth checking Lidl and Aldi as their chargers look exactly the same at a much lower price. I used one in my caravan to keep the onboard battery in good condition.

Lidl's charger doesn't continue charging after blackout.

If you have start/stop, do not connect negative charger cable straight to the battery. It should be connected to any other earthing point. That's how system realize it's getting power from external source.

Thanks. Mine is not stop/go so that is one problem I don't have. I guess I can just stick with my old charger. Happy new year to all.
