Inner door seal still leaking...

Featured Replies

Any tips... my inner door seal is still leaking. I've followed the fix it guide that's in here, which helped, but didn't fix it. I've got my local garage to have a look at it, and they tightened the door card, but that didn't make much difference either!

Any ideas on how to get the problem finally sorted?

you've not sealed it properly and cleared the drain holes too. Fact :)

Drain holes were cleaned. Fact.

How far up the rear edge of the carrier did you go with the sealant?

Mine was the same years ago, it was leaking from the handle and tracking down the Bowden cable cover. Also from the speaker door aperture and assorted parts of the doorcard clip holes too. A sieve would have been better as a door in my opinion.

The water was ingressing from the lower half of the door. (I ran a hose pipe over the door before I did the sealant job so I knew where the leak was coming from).

Sealed halfway up the sides of the door and the bottom

It leaks past sometimes, if you press on the door carrier where you've sealed you'll probably see bubbles and water running out.

I'd advise a few self tappers to pull the carrier toght to the door before sealing again.

Might not be quite far enough.  As I tried to show in post #10 here, one of the leakage paths hits the seal quite a long way up the rear edge.

Here's a picture showing watermarking from the black plastic bracket  , note how far up the rear edge it meets the seal.  Also shows watermarking consistent with the Bowden cable leak that mattievrs refers to above, I guess:

I've sealed up as much as about the last post/photo on the page by tech1e

That should be far enough then.

Mine also didn't have any watermarks anywhere in the door

Did you take that plate right off then? The watermarks are on the side you can't see unless you do?

If it is a seldom used door, or if you put the trim back on.... Try talc or spray deodorant (white powdery type). Water marks/trails should form giving some idea of the leak.

Rivets can leak as well as the seal area.

Extra screws or fixings might help.

There is another option.
