No Electrics after turning key

Featured Replies

Hi guys, just signed up to this. I just bought this car last week, i was out getting oil and returned to the car, put the key in and had the radio on for a minute with the dash lights on, then just as i went to start the car the dash lights went dead and now none of electrics work, not even central locking while using the key in the door. so after a short walk home, here i am!  i had absolutely no tools in this car or i would have disconnected the battery and tried and being left in a retail park at this time of year, i wasn't hanging around.  Anyway, the car has always started the second i turn the key so i doubt its a power issue with battery. Any info would be much appreciated, thanks!!

Main fuse or battery is either completely dead or the cable has come off or broken.

thanks, going back up to check soon, it was too busy to do anything. wouldn't be the immobiliser then because that was my first thought?

No. The central locking and dash lights would still function.

The fact it's completely dead points to a total power loss for some reason.

The immobiliser still allows the car to be started for a second before it cuts it out normally so its probably not that.

To have a car be completely dead after just driving it I would have to agree with Tommy and say the most likely cause would be some related to the main power such as complete battery failure or wiring/earth issue

Or a loose and corroded connection on the battery terminals.

That,

or just the battery actually flat which needs checked.

What it has done up until today really counts for nothing.  Is the Battery Charged, and does the alternator charge the battery is what matters as well.

thanks for the help guys, it was the negative connection on the battery, it had came loose and had 2 old connections on it acting like washers so it wouldn't tighten fully and was loose.

so glad it was simple, and thanks for the quick responses and help!
