Rear N/S bulb cluster

Featured Replies

Hello all,

Car is a MK2 FL Octavia VRS

I've just been told by a very friendly Officer that my running lights on the N/S aren't working. Having got home I can see they are lit, just very low! I have changed both the top and bottom bulbs for new ones and the issue is the same, I also changed the bulbs from the other side over and the same happens. These are the twin fulfillment bulbs, when I push the brakes the bulbs light up fine.

So is this a issue maybe with corrosion on the circuit board somewhere? or something deeper?

If I need a new bulb holder, I have found this number 1U6945257 (Think I have found the proper one 1Z5 945 257A) but not sure if this is correct for the MK2 FL. I'm after the bit in the middle (No.1) of this link http://workshop-manuals.com/skoda/octavia-mk2/vehicle_electrics/electrical_system/lights_lamps_switches_outside/tail_lights/octavia/removing_and_installing_lamp_holder_and_bulbs/

I have attached a pic showing the dim bulbs. You can see they are on but not bright at all

Any help or ideas would be great!

Dual filament you say? Have you tried taking them out, turning 180o and then reinserting them?

They only go in one way, the pins at the bottom are not directly across from each other.

First thing I would try is to connect the bulb holder to the other side (I think the connectors are the same). If it works it points to a wiring issue.

Why didn't I think of that!

Just been out and swapped them. You are correct, they are the same connector. Once swapped the N/S lit up fine and the O/S was weak, so it is pointing to an issue with the bulb carrier it's self. I'll see if I can see any damage to it after dinner tonight.

Another pointer to the bulb carrier will be the two other bulbs that aren't located on the same bulb carrier.

There are 2x W3W capless bulbs that form the 'C' shape of the rear night lights, if these are at normal brightness then it is definitely the main bulb carrier...

This is the estate but you can see the bulbs hanging here...

Yep the other two bulbs are brightly lit. I think I must be the bulb carrier. i will order a new one and see what happens.

Thanks for all your help everyone.
