Are these options possible with VagCom on my Octavia ?

Featured Replies

Hi folks,

I'm looking to hopefully add the following 'customisations' to my 2007 (Pre FL) 1.9tdi Octavia Elegance via VagCom (that is once I can meet a friend who has VagCom) ... just wondering if these are possible on my car, before I make myself look silly.

  • Increase Lane Change Indicator from 3 to 5
  • Activate horn, so it can be used when ignition is off
  • Activate second rear fog light
  • Adjust MPG tolerance so it gives a more realistic reading, and
  • hopefully switch on coming home lights (not too sure if this is possible .. )

Cheers

The first one will depend on the model year of you car, my old MY2007 car wouldn't do it.

Fog light and trip mpg, yes.

The horn worked on my old car with the ignition off.

As for CHL, do you have the rain/light sensor fitted?

It does have a rain sensor fitted .. current lights aren't auto on/off but the manual type.  I was under the impression that the coming home feature can be activated via VCDS but then requires the driver to flick the high beam stalk prior to leaving the car / parking up ?  Or have I got that wrong ?

The horn on mine works fine, but only when the ignition is on ?  Again, I thought there was a setting in VCDS to enable it when engine is off ?

Before I fitted the auto light switch I did have Ch/Lh lights, but I never got them to work with flicking the stalk.

Like I said the horn worked all the time on mine. I don't recall ever seeing a coding option relating to the horn operation.

  • Increase Lane Change Indicator from 3 to 5 = No

Activate horn, so it can be used when ignition is off = No

Activate second rear fog light = Yes, on Pre-facelift

Adjust MPG tolerance so it gives a more realistic reading, and = Yes

hopefully switch on coming home lights (not too sure if this is possible .. )

If you have auto wipers but not autolights, you will need to add a wire to the CECM and a light switch with AUTO light position

It can then be coded to work properly

Before I fitted the correct switch, CH lights worked only when the switch was left to headlights on, based on the light sensor (so only when dark). But LH worked correctly, except that leaving the switch to on override the sensor for LH (I.e.with the switch on, LH came on even when it wasn't dark).

I didn't try and fix this behaviour as I bought the proper switch and got proper auto lights.

Cheers for the replies folks ...

I've just checked my horn (as I was starting to doubt myself) and it definitely doesn't work when the ignition is off (which personally I think is rather strange behaviour as a classic example would be waiting in a supermarket car park for the wife, and somebody reverses out of a space directly towards you - this would be when you need the horn) ... shame it can't activated via VCDS :(

I might invest in an 'auto' switch and run the extra wire down to the BCM - have seen  plenty of threads on here about that (another project to start sometime).

I would have thought that the horn should work without the ignition but perhaps that's a more recent feature.

Is the MPG off by the industry standard 10% or is it another random amount, and from that how do you know what to bring it in line to?

Not sure about the exact figures to be honest but found the following very helpful instructions a thread somewhere on here a while (credit to the original poster, sorry but I've forgotten your name) ..

Calibrate MPG Figure in Vag COM

Work out the actual MPG figure from a full tank

Number of litres added / 4.54 = number of gallons used

Actual MPG = distance on full tank / gallons used

Go into VCDS/VAGCOM, open controller 17, Instruments

Click advanced functions, Adaptation box 10

Scroll up to channel 3

Standard default value = 100%. This can be altered within the range 85% to 115%

Work out new value this way:

New % figure = (old % figure x MPG figure shown on dash) / calculated actual MPG figure

I have activated gallons to refill via vcds and also coming home lights too.

I have no light sensor and before opening the door I have to pull full beam for a second.

There is a menu in maxidot to change the seconds for it to activate.

Mikeholroyd kindly activated my twin rear fogs and it required vagcom not vcds.

No idea about the horn as I have never checked same with lane flash but I thought it could be changed via vcds.

Just out of curiosity with the horn situation, do any other Mk II pre FL Octavia owners have the same problem (with it not working when ignition is off) ?

Oh I have a fl car and horn doesn't work with ignition off I just checked.

Not sure, I think I saw a tick box in the coding so you can change it. will check next time i plug vcds

this option is only available on 5K0 Modules if there

You may be correct. I have never checked on my vcds as I've never noticed it didn't work with ignition off.

Not an option I'd really bother changing either but I understand the reason some people would change it.

Is the MPG off by the industry standard 10% or is it another random amount, and from that how do you know what to bring it in line to?

My old mkI was only slightly optimistic, 2-3mpg, but my mkII was miles out, like 10mpg before I adjusted it.

Oh I have a fl car and horn doesn't work with ignition off I just checked.

Pretty sure that mine acts this way also. 2010 facelift.

Why do you want the horn to work after the ignition is off? Can't think of a reason I'd need it.

Scaring people in car parks?

Or making it easier to annoy your neighbours?

Only in case of the quoted scenario above, where I might be waiting in a supermarket car park (or any other car park) and someone reversing out towards me .. if they were coming very close, or looked like they might be on a collision course with me ... it would be nice to be able to sound the horn, without having to fumble around turning the ignition on first ...

"waiting" for someone to "come very close"... ;-)
