4x4 transmission ?

Featured Replies

Hi , is the 4x4 transmission the same as in the audi tt , gearing etc or just similar ie are they interchangable ? :)

depends on which TT, most of them use the 6 speed box which is obviosly quite different!

the 6 speed isn't just a 6 speed version of the 5 speed box its a totally different gar box so requires a new/different starter motor/clutch/flywheel/linkages/drive shafts/prop shaft and maybe a couple more bits.

hopefully some day someone will fit a 6 speed to a 4x4 to lead the way and show others what is involved in terms of cost and labour. ;)

TT wont fit, we tried, got as far as stripping the old box out & trying to fit the TT box, the take off for the rear drive is in a different place so the prop shaft will run out of line.

The 4x4 has short gearing as std so great acceleration but will hit the limiter in top once its tweaked to about 250 bhp.(limiter raised to 7400)

The way round it is to either buy a Quaife box (proper way, loads of money) or fit Rs internals into the 4x4 box to raise the ratios

I think Petrol_1 meant to to ask if the rear diff from an Audi TT will fit the 4x4. This is what we talked about earlier, I suggested pose the question here, sorry lads

AFAIK know the haldex units are all the same. BTW if he needs one tell him to drop me a PM as I have one spare.
