Confused over oil service indicator ?

Featured Replies

So my 2016 VRS petrol has now covered just over 9000 miles.

Out of curiosity I tried to look at how long it has left until it's due an oil service and it says 6500 miles until next service.

Surely that can't be right ??? Over 15000 before its first oil service ?

I'm pretty sure it was set to annual servicing rather than long life.

Is this right ?

That looks about right for Variable servicing if you don't mainly do short journeys. Mine's on variable and will have covered about 15k since its last service, when the next one is due.

If it's on fixed then it's due at 10k.

That looks about right for variable. If it was on fixed I'd expect a warning like "Service 1_000 (miles)" on start up at just over 9_000.

Ok.

I'm not sure if I reset the service indicator by mistake by holding the mileage reset button and swtiching the ignition on at the same time.

What are the normal intervals for annual servicing and variable then.

We bought the car new at the end of march.

Fixed / minor / annual = 10,000 miles or 12 months, whichever is reached first.

Variable / major / longlife = up to 20,000 miles or 2 years, the car decides for itself based on your driving style (journey length, number of cold starts, engine load, exterior temperatures etc.)

If it's a PCP or PCH car and you've no intention of buying it then variable is ideal to keep servicing costs to a minimum.

If the car is privately owned and you plan on keeping it beyond the 3 year warranty then fixed servicing is the way to go, fresh oil is the lifeblood of an engine and turbo.

I had asked them to set it to fixed as we are planning on keeping it.

I had asked them to set it to fixed as we are planning on keeping it.

Get it serviced at 10k then and ask them (again) to switch it to fixed.
