Octavia TDI 110 mk1 running issues - Idle, power cut out - Cold

Featured Replies

Hello all.

I've recently bought a mk1 octavia tdi elegance - 110Bhp. 110k miles, recent cambelt.

Runs fine when hot. Giving good mpg (45-65).

On a cold start the idle is lumpy. Will sit at 1k for 5 secs, drop down a hundred or so revs for 1 sec, then repeat.

Also, again when cold, on first driving it will feel like you're tapping the brakes, it will just drop power very slightly, and lurch.

1 mile and it's fine, faults gone. Any ideas? MAF sensor? EGR valve?

I'm new to turbos, does it show?

Thanks in advance.

Could be coolant temp sensor or injection pump timing. Given the recent belt change it would be worth checking the timing. You need someone with vcds to check the timing.

Agreed; mine "misfires" for a few seconds if ambient temp is below 7C, but that clears when all 4 cylinders warm a little. It's sort of start, count to 3, select first, release handbrake and it's running fine.

All of the above also i would recomend check throttle pedal and cruise controll switch if aplicable atached to the clutch pedal and brake light switch but as the other guys say try colant temp first and timing

The throttle pot gives a rough pickup even when the engine is hot; I have had a failing one and know this.

depending on pump also take a look(vag-com) at the fuel temp sensor (housed in pump)
