Hi guys, wonder if its a good idea to put straight pipe on 1.6 automatic, has any one done it and whats the advantages and disadvantages of straight pipe.

I doubt there is any advantage to doing that for road use. It will make it noisier and I assume you will be doing away with one of the boxes and maybe even a decat? All illegal if you do. Would not advise any of that, it's a dirty enough engine as it is. This engine is weak enough in it's power delivery already and without proper tuning you will destroy whatever power it has. Incidentally, I've had one for 4 years until I got my new Fabia Mk3 generation car. My 1.6 produced more power than VW advertised, as is often the case with VW engines. It went ok for what it was. But not a great engine for tuning unless you go the whole hog and spend some real money. 

I believe it would increase fuel consumption (at least on a VRS MK2)
