Windscreen Wipers

Featured Replies

Has anyone else had issue with the front windscreen wipers getting stuck in the vertical position when turning the ignition off and not wanting to carry on working when restarting the car?

This has now happened on two occasions and only after several minutes of restarting and meddling with the wiper stork have the wipers actually started to work again - although I can't figure out exactly what I have done to get them operational again!

This is somewhat inconvenient although at least that only stop working when you have stopped to turn the ignition off rather than when your driving down the motorway at 70 mph!

I've been into the dealership and surprisingly they are unable to identity anything wrong!

Thanks

Sounds normal that they shouldn't continue upon restarting. This prevents damage to the wipers and motors should ice have formed since you turned off.

No the wipers do not work at all. I can't drive off in the rain as they are stuck in the vertical position!

I was surprised that the power is cut to them when you turn off, in my previous car they would finish the sweep of you turned off mid cycle.

Yeah I would have expected them to park as well.

Have you tried driving off? I'm fairly sure in my Octavia they reactivate when you reach a certain speed.

Have you tried moving the wiper stalk?

Mine will do this if wipers not parked when ignition switched off, a quick flick of the wiper stalk moves them back to park position.

Perhaps the bonnet switch is faulty, wipers won't move if the car thinks it's open. Not easy to see on the maxidot.

Never had such problems with mine.

When it happens next time, first thing to do is take your phone out and take a video of the problem. With all the actions you do trying to get the wipers working. Then the dealership will have a proof and will be easier for them to talk to Skoda about the possible solutions. Or if maybe there is some weird explanation they might tell you what the trick is to get them going again.

You haven't accidentally put them in the service position (used when changing wiper blades or washing the car) have you?

In my owners manual page 237 refers ;)

I was thinking this too.  Just pull the stalk down and hold for a few seconds and it should return to normal position.
