Could someone check under the back bumper of their mk2 FL Hatch?

Featured Replies

Recently I have got myself a 2009 FL Octavia Hatchback.

Ive looked under the back bumper and can see a rectangular gap in the bumber/rear valance right underneath.  Just off centre.

Now I know this is the gap for a towbar fitted where the electrics fold down and the tow bar comes out.  However I dont have a tow bar fitted and the visible factory panels of the outer spare wheel well look quite exposed to the elements.  Its still very clean and dry up there but exposed.

Im wondering if im missing a plastic cover from here, it certainly looks that way.

But then I see this and wonder if they dont have covers here?

This is the only pic I can find which explains where the gap is.  Gaps on each side for the exhaust and towing eye can also be seen.

Do other FL octavia owners have a plastic cover here or an exposed rectangular hole where the towing equimpent comes out?

It may have to be specific to non VRS owners checking as mines a 1.6 tdi elegance.

Thank you.

Fitted a towbar to mine last year and there was no cover, just a hole. Probably cost cutting measures.

Was it a mess and any corrosion from the elements up the back?

Definately looks like it should be covered over I might even try to make a plastic cover.

A bit grimy but no corrosion. If you're worried about it just tape it up with duct tape.

Reading your topic title, I thought you had lost your cat, Lol.

I might tape it up.

Should have a cover on though.

Starting to notice a few of the cost cutting measures with my skoda.

And if I had lost my cat it's somewhere I would look cos it would definately be able to crawl up there and sit in the bumper!!
