VCDS Lite Cable

Featured Replies

Which is a decent cable for VCDS Lite please?

I bought a 'dumb' cable from ebay which works. I have VCDS lite (paid version) and it works.

I'll try and find the cable I bought but I'll have to go into my ebay purchases from a few years back................... :wait:

Edit: Ebay won't go back that far but Ross Tech say "When choosing an interface for VCDS-Lite, we recommend getting one that's based on an FTDI FT232 Chip"

So something like http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VAG-409-1-KKL-OBD2-USB-Car-Interface-Cable-FTDI-FT232RL-Chip-VCDS-Lite-VW-Audi-/331941924556?hash=item4d4947cecc:g:EC0AAOSwqv9V7SGt or http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VAG-COM-KKL-OBD2-USB-Cable-FTDI-FT232RL-Chip-2x2-Adapter-Cable-for-VCDS-Lite-/232004864321?hash=item3604914941:g:uvkAAOSwYIhWjyMH

Pay attention to the link on the Ross Tech page about configuring you laptops COM port.

OK I got the Gendan cable (with 'free' bag of Haribo, haha). Have to say that the cable looks no different at all to the £5 ones on ebay.  Anyway,  I downloaded the drivers and assigned a COM port on my laptop and VCDS Lite is working great on my car!

Is it worth upgrading to the paid version of VCDS Lite?

Wait until there's something that the free version won't do, and the registered/paid version can?  I'm honestly not sure what the differences are, but they may be tabulated on the Ross-tech site somewhere.

Autoscan for a start.

Free Shareware:

Cannot do AutoScan
Won't display text for all fault codes
No Basic Settings (so no TBA, Xenon leveling, etc or checking timing on TDI's)
No Adaptation Saving (so no changing of locking/lights/horn behavior)
No Output Tests
No tech support from Ross-Tech
