Drivers Wing Mirror dmage

Featured Replies

Hi Guys....some inconsiderate bar steward managed to take out my wing mirror this morning whilst my car was parked outside my front door....proof if any were needed that people in the UK seem to loose the ability to drive as soon as they see the first sign of a snowflake!!

Question is this. Has anyone replaced the lower indicator section of the wing mirror before on a  pre FL VRS? The main painted shell seems to have survived intact (bar a small scratch and crack which wont harm for now), but at a cursory glance, as I have not had a chance to check it thoroughly, the indictor unit seems to have actually broken some moulded plastic which I presume was holding it to the main shell assembly?

Also, the small LED board that actually makes up the lighting unit seems to have been bent upwards by the force of whatever hit it....miraculously it is still working, but again, from first glance I cant see what position I would have to bend it back into in order to get the lower indicator shell to fit. The indicator shell will be have to be replaced at some point but for now if I can put it back on it would be helpful.

I'll be piecing things back together as best I can tomorrow once I have some time and some light to work by, but thought I'd see if anyone had any pics of how the mirrors assemble or even what position the LED board is in.

Cheers

I replaced one on a mk5 golf which I believe is a similar mirror.

Was easy enough to do DIY!

Think the led lower section is a separate part.  To get at it you need to remove the glass and access screws holding mirror shell on, then remove that.

Edit. Doh pre FL.  They are similar but may not have the screws holding the shell on.  If you go back to previous pages on that disassembly diagram link, it should get you a pre FL diagram.

Also, quite a bit of detail here.

Pull the glass out then the shell can be hard to get off but it is just clipped in then youl find 2 small torx screws going down screwing into the indicator module. After they are out the indicator just falls off. its a 5 minute job once you know how to get the shell off.

Spot on.

Someone took out my offside wing mirror (Octy MK2 Elegance Pre FL) one night and broke the cover and the indicator. Bought a new one from Caffyns (dealership but the price was ok)

The glass was OK and was still attached so this popped off easily and then I could remove the two torx screws and the wiring and pop the new one in place. Very easy fix.
