Rear pads replaced

Featured Replies

I replaced the rear pads today after they were an advisory on the MOT.

I used factory pads and a rewinding tool from the bay.

The pads had about 2-3mm left on one edge.

The discs were replaced probably 4-5 years ago.

As I did each side I unscrewed the bleed nipple to let fluid come out as I screwed the piston back in, the rubber cap was missing on the NS bleed screw and so the nipple was very hard to undo with a spanner. So the nipple is probably rusted and does not work.

Also the piston rubber seal was starting to break up in two small places on this side, the piston was quite tight to screw back and I am not sure if I screwed it all the way back but the pads fitted easily.

I released the handbrake cable on each side as I did it but did not adjust the handbrake after reassembly as per Haynes advice as it stopped in the same position as before.

No idea if I need to bleed the brakes after a couple of weeks as they seem ok, even though 75% ish is front brakes.

If there is any thing to be done about any of this please comment, but it seems to work ok.

If it works it works. It might be worth thinking about doing a refurb on the calipers or getting new ones one day, but I wouldn't particularly rush into it.

If you've opened the system, it's always worth doing at least a quick bleed just for peice of mind.
