Seat base tilt-angle

Featured Replies

Hello,

Any idea on how to adjust the seat base tilt angle in a non-electric driver`s seat? I found that the factory angle of the seat base is tilted too much backwards, and on longer journeys for me this creates lower back discomfort/pain.

Short of dismantling the whole seat I don't think you can.

Having the seat too far back or the back too upright gives me back pain.

No. It does not tilt afaik.I have never noticed a problem and anyway never owned one with a tilting base. Feels comfortable enough like all my recent cars. Sorry to hear about your back.

Have you tried the lumbar support?

Beyond that unscrew the back bolts maybe put some washers under to raise the seat a bit.

Thanks, will try to put some washers. My car have textil seats and they feel very soft for me, (maybe the leader ones are not so soft), I can feel the lumbar support all the time even if it is not engaged. Actually the angle of the seat feels like all my body weight is supported, concentrated on the lower part of the seat (approximatively where the lumbar support is) and this creates the lower back pain. If the washer „tactics„ won`t be enough, then I will have to change the seats, or at least the drivers seat, for a Recaro Ergomed os Style, or something similar (does anybody have experience with changing the seats ?)

Have you tried raising the seat up? I find that when you raise it, the change in position and height can help move your weight forward a bit?

Thank you very much for the kind responses, I find this forum really useful, supported by a lot of nice members.

Sorry the seats dont tilt on these, height adjustment only.

I had AGR approved seats on my old Zafira Tourer (didnt particularly like the car, but did like the seats).....height, base tilt, extending squabs and electric lumbar support with 3 stage heating......what with the van like driving postion to date dont think ive ever felt so comfortable in a car.

Whilst VAG can teach Vauxhall a fair bit about making a decent car, they sure as hell could conversely learn from them about making decent seats :-)

It's all subjective though. In my opinion If a driver wanted a comfy seat they should have driven a saab.

I get back ache too - mostly due to the little ones - but my elegance trim seats dont aggravate.

For anyone who suffers from back ache consider the heated seat option. The constant heat from them really does sooth any aches.

I think some golf mk7 and new passats now come with AGR approved seats and may be worth try to source some from the scrap yard.

I`v been thinking about it, and in 18 years of driving an owning a total of 11 cars (4 Dacias, 4 Opels, 2 BMWs - and not counting various rental cars in holidays, company cars, etc.) I have never encountered such a bad drivers seat, or never had any kind of back pain issues ever. No offense for Skoda, the car is great in a lot of aspects, and at a very good price too,  but they really should be doing something about the seats...

As you adjust the height of the seat it gets a bit flatter the higher it gets.

maybe worth trying that first before adding washers.

I have found a lot of Golf 7 - ergoActive seats, and Passat B8 - ergoComfort seats on german ebay, both are AGR approved seats, with a lot of adjustments, (electric lumbar, massage, etc.)

Do somebody know which one will fit the Octavia and if the Golf or the Passat seats baseframe will fit without  modifications in the Octavia ?

The front seats from golf mk7 should bolt straight in as same platform as Oct mk3, although you may need to be creative to get a power supply for the electric adjustment to work
